2年前に新門前に泊まったので、今回は古門前を利用しました。冬なのであまりお客はいませんでした。部屋は清潔で浴槽もあり、大満足。
ただ、夜静かになるとどこかの部屋の話し声がボソボソ聞こえました。うるさい客だったら、ちょっと煩わしいかもしれません。

和モダンおしゃれ、清潔綺麗、にこやか親切。

フロントスタッフの方々の愛想が良く、とても親切。外国人フロントスタッフも日本語が大変流暢かつ情報豊富で素晴らしい。最寄りコンビニはローソンストア100（コンビニとスーパーと100均のいい所どりのような店）がホテル玄関の真ん前にあり、徒歩３秒。ホテル全体のデザインが和モダンに統一されていてハイセンスなイメージ。どこもかしこも綺麗で清潔。特に浴室は秀逸で、広めのバスタブ・使いやすいシャワーヘッド、おまけに風呂椅子までありました。ワンランク上の品揃えのフリードリンクサービスもありがたい（冷茶もあればなおよかった！）。今回スタンダード ツインルームに泊まりましたが、またお世話になりたいホテルでした。

訪日客をイメージした日本風ホテル？

ワンフロアー３部屋のコンパクトなホテル。新しいのか、とても綺麗。自分たち以外はほとんど海外のお客さんで、フロントにも海外の方が多かったですが、日本語も堪能で全く問題なし。土足厳禁の部屋、畳など、海外のお客さんの日本イメージで作られたホテルかな、という印象。バスタブがない（シャワーのみ）なのもそうすると納得。朝食も和・洋揃っていますが、ご飯のおかずとしてはちょっと物足りない感もあったり。自分は全く問題なかったですが、その辺が合わない人には合わないかも。

教えたくない「隠れ家」

宿選びは人それぞれ、さらにいえば旅それぞれだと思います。できれば京都の市街地、できればビジネスでなく、でもそこまで宿で寛ぐでもなく、リーズナブルに抑えたいけど、でも少しは贅沢したい、ちょっとでも京の風情があれば・・・そんな思いにベストフィットの宿でした。リザーブできなくなるので教えたくないですが笑、いいホテルです。

大変満足しました

2018/2/10～2/12まで2泊お世話になりました。
チェックイン時から、私が体調を崩し、早めのチェックインを聞き届けていただけてありがたかったです。また、もよりの薬局、病院、タクシーの連絡先まで教えていただけて、大変助かりました。幸いそのお世話になることもなく無事過ごせました。

新しいホテルで気持ちよく過ごせました。バスルームも広くてゆったりしています。
持ち出せるスマホを貸し出してるみたいで、海外の旅行者には嬉しいサービスだと思います。これだけのコスパならまた宿泊したいです。駐車場があるともっとよかったかな。

新しくて落ち着いた、コンパクトなホテル

京都駅からのバス停にも電車の駅にも近く
便利でした。繁華街からは外れているので静かです。従業員に西欧人の方がおられ、日本的で丁寧な接客をされていたのが印象的でした。
ホテル全体が新しく、快適に過ごせました。
部屋が落ち着いた和室で、畳の上に低いベッドというスタイルが良かったです。ベッドの寝心地も快適でした。

The perfect location! A short walk to some amazing restaurants and attractions, whilst still being in a very quiet street. Staff were great, hotel was cozy and quiet, more traditional bedding lower to the floor so just be mindful if you have back issues. No issues for us, super comfy stay and for 4 nights it was ideal for us.

Great hotel hidden in great location

While the surrounding area almost made my wife turn around (neighboring buildings looked rundown). While entering the hotel she was quickly calmed. The hotel and room itself was very clean and everything looked pristine and new. Best location with just a few meters to gion the beautiful gion street and a few minute walk to food and shopping.

Excellent petit hôtel dans un quartier calme et très interessant avec petites rues, petits restaurants et magasins mais pas loin d’animation de Kyoto. Chambre très confortable avec excellent espace sanitaire très propre et bien équipé. Personnel très attentif. Petit déjeuner occidental simple mais bon avec option japonais en réservant à l’hôtel partenaire à cinq minutes de marche. Nous recommandons sans hésitation.

I stayed here for two nights over my honeymoon two years ago and was over the moon about this location. Therefore, when we came back to fully experience Kyoto we thought coming back here was a no-brainer. We were wrong. Therr were several spiders in our room, room cleaning was very minimal (they only replaced the body towels and disposables as well as emptying the trashcans), the room was extremely dusty and dirty (coffee stains) on the walls and ceilings, they also never refilled our water. Unsure if and how things have changed, but for the price I don’t think I would recommend for a long stay. For a short stay, the space is nice and very spacious with a large tub which was nice after all the walking.

Nice stay

This small hotel located on a quiet street in Gion. It is very convenient to walk to different tourist spots in central Kyoto and just a min walk to subway and regional train stations. The room is small but clean and neat. Bathroom is well equipped and nice for whole day of walking. Staff are helpful and friendly. I would love to stay here again.

This property was lovely. The staff were quite friendly, spoke English very well and we’re very helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were clean and the neighborhood is great. I forgot about VIP status so I don’t believe we received anything special. The hotel did have tea and water available, but I believe that was for everybody.

I really enjoyed my stay at Gion Misen Furumonzen. My room was very stylish and comfortable, and I loved the bathroom. The bathtub was amazing! The staff were also wonderful: very polite and helpful any time I had a question. I've seen other reviews complaining that the staff isn't friendly, but essentially these complaints seem focused on the fact that the staff are mostly European rather than Japanese. This should be seen as a pro, rather than a con. They are all multi-lingual, meaning they can help a greater range of travellers in their own languages. For a city like Kyoto that draws visitors from every corner of the globe, having multi-lingual staff at a hotel is an absolute bonus.

The location of the hotel is great too. Right on the edge of Gion, so the area is walkable (I walked as far south as Kiyomizu-dera) but the street itself is quiet, which I appreciated. And it's very close to Sanjo Station, which makes travel quite easy (no need to take any packed buses).

The one thing, as other reviewers have mentioned, is the pillow situation. The pillows in the room were like pancakes. I had two beds in my room, so I was able to use the additional pillows, but for a relatively expensive boutique hotel, you'd expect better pillows, or a pillow bar in the lobby. If business-class hotels can have a pillow bar, so can boutique hotels. This hotel's rating would instantly improve if they added a pillow bar.

Beyond that, I had a great stay and was sad to leave, haha.

I really enjoyed this hotel. Compared to general room sizes in Japan, my room had great space and it was kind of a traditionally designed place. All the amenities offered were high quality and the room was so clean. Staff is very helpful. Location is also great, 6 minutes walking distance to Sanjo station and it was mostly flat. I will for sure stay here when I visit Kyoto again. Thank you!

Fuji is beautiful!

We stayed in a room for 3. 2 beds as normal and one on a mezzanine up some ladders- steep so be prepared! The staff were great. The water was lovely. The view of Mt. Fuji from so close by was great. The recommended pizza place sounded excellent but it had sold out quite early as it is very small. The bakery down the road is lovely. Access to views of Fuji are great and the lake was lovely too.

The best place we stayed while on our trip. We will be staying here every time we visit Kyoto in the future. The room was great, just enough space and gave that Japanese experience with the feel of Western amenities. The staff was incredible, answering a lot of our questions about Japan. Cozy Stay in Gion

We lived this cozy hotel. The staff was very friendly and helped us with our restaurant booking and other recommendations in the city. Hotel is almost brand new. Rooms are japanese style but with a modern touch. We booked a room with onsen style bathtub and loved it. Great location, most things are walkable. The room itself is ok, the hotel is generous enough to give us upgrade to a garden room but it’s not really a garden just a space between buildings that had couple plants that’s smaller than a normal balcony, because the garden room is on ground floor surrounded by high buildings so you never got to see the sky and it’s dark. The mattress is on the floor but the floor has some funny smell kinda smell like dirty feet. All the staffs are super friendly and nice, but the restaurant recommendation are questionable. So make sure do your homework, they are happy to help you to make reservations.

The hotel is located in Gion on a quiet street . Walkable to a lot of temples and Gion tourist shopping street is also very close. Fish market and restaurants are right across the river. The room is comfortable, was upgraded to a garden view but it’s not really a garden if it’s only a 3 feet deep garden ousdie of the window that facing walls of other buildings, you can never see the sky in that room. We usually call that room with no view. The only problem tho is that if you want late check out will be a charge but there’s no storage for luggages. You can only leave them at a corner unattended which doesn’t seem so safe. Staffs are friendly

Ich habe das ”Deluxe-Zimmer“ für zwei Personen gebucht. Die Bezeichnung Deluxe ist irreführend. Es ist ein einfaches Standardzimmer, sehr beengt für zwei Personen. Das Bad ist ein Flur mit einer Armlänge Breite. Dusch- und Badbereich riechen unangenehm muffig. Deluxe ist nur der Preis von 170€ pro Nacht. Ein fairer Preis liegt vielleicht zwischen 70-90€ inkl. Steuern pro Nacht. Würde es auf keinen Fall wieder buchen. Sehr ernüchterndes Erlebnis.

I had the pleasure of staying at Gion Misen Furumonzen, and I must say it was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the charm and tranquility of this wonderful establishment.

The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the garden view room. If it's available, don't hesitate to choose it! The view was absolutely breathtaking, with lush greenery and a serene atmosphere that instantly whisked me away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I found myself spending hours simply gazing out of the window, savoring the peacefulness of the garden.

If you’re looking for a clean hotel, this is it. The beds although slightly uncomfortable to us would benefit from larger pillows, it’s a personal preference, but you’ll be happy to have 3 of them! The AC didn’t go lower than 20, again it’s personal preference, but if you sleep hot, then AC is must! The bathrooms were perfect and the amenities spot on! On arrival there was a large group that took the latest spot for breakfast, all of them! Meaning you had NO choice other than wake up early or make other plans. This isn’t why I go on vacation, the hotels response was “you should have booked a time when we emailed you in April” I understand space is limited, but not great business to let one party take an entire time slot. Not a reason to not stay, but bare that in mind if you’re expecting them to refund the breakfast option as they didn’t, but offered us two drinks which although were appreciated, we spent more each day grabbing breakfast out. It’s a love/dislike review based on this one incident, but it affected our vacation and I only get one each year.

Recommend to stay

It was a great Japanese-style boutique hotel. A French receptionist was very friendly and professional. Japanese staff gave used umbrellas to us since it was raining when we checked out. Walking distance to Gion and many restaurants.

No option for a Japanese breakfast, which is a shame. Our breakfast was terrible for the price and the small quantities.
We left one day at 7AM and came back at 3PM and we noticed they did not clean the room. They then tried to enter after 3PM when we were in the room telling them not to enter (they did anyway)

Convenient location

Hotel is near to restaurants in the heart of Gion. Staff speaks good English and you are entitled to a free drink from the lobby bar each evening. Pillows were really flat and uncomfortable. Bed mattress is hard.

Very Nice Hotel

Boutique hotel, small, intimate. VERY small hotel.

Staff was great - multilingual, attentive service.

The bathrooms in each rooms are god's gift to mankind. Not even joking.

The entrance is hard to find, especially when you drop in at night. Hint it looks like the bar, if you see the bar and a window seat with a go board you are in the right place. We missed it at night and another couple missed it in the day, bot of us thought it was the bar (in the US the bar usually has a separate entrance)

Nice Kyoto location for a good price

They have foreigners working as staff so speaking english was much easier than broken english/google translate, they are extremely friendly and helpful when I asked to transfer my luggage to my next hotel too.

The room is a little tight and the beds are a little hard.

Location wise is not the best

The place, the room and service is excellent. However, location wise is not for me personally. The location is situated behind busy street however it was so dead quiet even only at 7ish evening. I stayed for 2 nights and those 2 nights, I found myself walking alone the street to the hotel, a bit scary. The room is very dark and even with lighting. I found it hard to put on makeup. The window in the room cannot be opened. Breakfast wise, I was expecting japanese style breakfast, but it turned out to be western style which doesn’t quite match with the hotel theme.

We left the key in the room and needed the receptionist to let us in. She made us another key. We asked for two keys when we checked in but we’re told we could only have one. To our surprise they charged us 1000 yen and refused to give me a receipt for the charge. We had to pay cash. What a disappointment and rip off. There are numerous wonderful hotels here. Don’t waste your time with this place.

A very nice small hotel in Gion

The hotel is a very pleasant place located in the Gion quarter not far from major attractions in Kyoto. The room was convenient and pleasantly decorated with beds close to the floor in the more traditional Japanese style. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could be improved by making it in buffet style and not preparing a uniform plate that may not suite the taste of everyone.

Quiet area, great location, lovely hotel

Check-in was good. I arrived early and they stored my luggage while I wandered around. Directly across the street is a Lawson which is super convenient for drinks and snacks and other necessities. Maybe a 10 minute walk from the closest station and popular shopping street. Lots of good restaurants around. Across the river is the popular Nakamise shopping street and famous Pontocho restaurant ally. The staff is extremely friendly and all spoke English. The room was pretty clean although some light fixtures had some dust which wasn’t too bothersome. They provide free toiletries including cotton swabs, razors, hair brush, hair ties, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The lobby also offers free coffee and tea. They also provide some free drinks in the fridge. The only problem I had was the bed hardness. I might just be unused to the hardness of Japanese beds or the quality of the beds in American beds are different but it made it a little difficult to get comfortable and go to sleep. Over all a good stay. 9/10

Very cozy and homy feel to this hotel. The japanese breakfast is prepared every day by a local cook for the hotel and was a balanced and enjoyable meal. The location is ideal for enjoying kyoto. It is a 2 min walk from the metro station and a 5 min walk from the pontocho area with a variety of shops and restaurants to choose from. In addition, it is walking distance from many kyoto landmarks (kyoto imperial palace, shrines, etc.). The rooms are a balance between traditional Ryokans and a classic hotel room which is nice.

It’s definitely far from main landmarks, not a 10-15 minutes walk. It’s not child friendly, there is nothing to do with a child there. Tiny dark room, windows can’t open. I moved bed closer to the closet so my daughter wouldn’t fall and it was too hot and noisy every time she turned at night. AC is either too strong or too weak. We were hot and my mother on the other bed got a cold. Breakfast is very basic, not enough coffee. I regret staying in this hotel, should have booked a room closer to Yasaka shrine. Do not recommend
