旅館 銀閣

和室の部屋は清潔で過ごしやすかったです。
ただ、チェックアウトが10時なのですが、9時半頃から部屋の外で、ドンドン、カンカン、何か工事が始まったのか？と思ったら、チェックアウト後の部屋を順に掃除している音でした。
まだ滞在中の人もいるのだから、掃除するのは分かるにしても、騒音については配慮してほしかったです。

Great location, excellent staff, very close to station, shops and restaurants. Would recommend a western bed rather than sleeping traditional style on the floor but that was totally our choice. Bath facilities downstairs are great and can book private couples baths. View was poor and aircons for building next door noisy through closed windows.

Room was spotless, amenities were wonderful. The rooms are big enough for large suitcases which we greatly appreciated! It is conveniently located just a few blocks from the main station. A bit further away from main turist attractions but transportation is pretty accesible.

Having a few extra pillows would've been nice as we were provided with just one small one, but we understand this was a traditional ryokan.

The onsen was also super nice and they have a tattoo friendly onsen.

Pros-
Clean, no smells or stains.
Easy to get to from the train.
Staff was very nice and they offer welcome tea & cookies.
Bathroom was roomy with good counterspace, however I didn’t use the shower, only the public bath since I was there for 1 night.
Laundry is fast and conveniently located next to the public bath.
Tea and water provided in room.
There’s a fridge as well but didn’t use it.

Cons-
Dark pathway to walk to the hotel. I got there around 830pm and was a solo traveler.
It was hard to navigate their heater. I slept with the AC on and was SO cold.

Only stayed 1 night, so I didn’t get to fully settle in to give a solid review.

A newly renovated hotel. A bargain given its location near the trainstation and its on site onsen. Highly recommend and would stay here when I visit Kyoto in the future.

People are very nice and will do their absolute best to communicate with you. Very helpful and outgoing. Room was very nice and spacious compared to some japanese hotels and it had that traditional feel. Yukata was awesome too.

Very modern, clean and central. In general nothing to complain. Only little things, the room was big and clean, but usually a ryokan room has some decoration e.g painting, flower vase etc wirhout the room felt a little empty. Public bath was modern and nice but the bath water was luke warm only ? Foreigners probably also need more guidance on wearing Yukatas and changing house slippers to outside slippers.

A very serene and pleasant experience, just steps away from the Kyoto train station. Staff was very responsive, and their traditional breakfast was a nice touch each morning. The welcome tea was also a refreshing surprise. We will definitely stay there again.

The property is good, but there is a problem with Expedia booking system with the hotel. It charged 100 dollars extra per night. It was the only hotel after 12 days that gave us problem. Also, the hotel asked us to call Expedia as they didn’t speak English; Expedia didn’t have any translator to Japanese either. It was an embarrassing, time consuming, and cost effective experience. Bad experience

Tradition with comfort

We got a tradition ryokan experience with the luxury of a hotel. The onsen was really nice, but I wish towels were provided there rather than having to remember to bring them from the room. There was a note telling us to do that, but we forgot. The area was very walkable for shopping and restaurants and very close to the train station.

Absolutely loved our stay here! The staff were so helpful and spoke English really well which we really appreciated. We also really enjoyed the welcome tea and sweet treat.

The room itself was so clean and had great amenities- I was very excited to wear the yukata! I love the authenticity of the room it was truely a great stay and I wish we had booked longer.

I was also looking forward to trying the onsen but was very nervous because of the nudity, so I was very pleased to try the private bath option to be able to have this experience before becoming comfortable with the public bath.

Ryokan Ginkaku offered a fantastic experience living in a traditional Japanese room but in a new building. It is very clean and spacious. We chose the wide room with private bath, which is very enjoyable. The traditional breakfast is fantastic (but for those who do not like fish for breakfast, perhaps better to skip this option). Locationwise, it is very close to Kyoto central station. Plenty of foods in the station Porta Dining. Close to bus stops too. Highly recommended.

This was my first time staying at a Ryokan and I was very pleasantly surprised. The renovated facilities are definitely worth the hype. Distance from Kyoto station is ideal and I suppose having a room with no balcony of a view was offset by it being very quiet. The onsen was great, much more private than I expected. The only minor issue was the understaffed reception at check out time. Other than that staff were great.

The tatami flooring, sliding shoji doors, and calming décor created a peaceful retreat from the outside world.

The futon mattresses were incredibly comfortable—we both slept like babies. Every detail in the room was carefully thought out, and the overall atmosphere made us feel deeply connected to Japanese culture.

The highlight of each morning was the exquisite Japanese-style breakfast. It was a true culinary experience—beautifully presented, balanced, and bursting with flavor. Every dish felt like a work of art.

Das Ryokan hat eine gehobene Ausstattung, der Service ist wirklich gut.
Es ist fußläufig vom Bahnhof erreichbar und liegt somit wirklich praktisch an den zentralen Bahn- und Busverbindungen.

Das Frühstück wird sehr traditionell vorbereitet, wenn man ein japanisches Frühstück nicht so mag, dann ist das evtl. Etwas ungünstig.

Quiet and central

Beautiful Inn on a quiet Kyoto alley amongst izykaya and convenience shops central to walking to important areas of culture. Beautiful onsen healthy after a long day of walking. Aesthetics and architecture both classic and modern at the same time. Small gardens enhance experience.

The hotel is really close to the Kyoko train station, very convenient to get to different places. Many great restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is very clean and quite. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would stay here again when we visit Kyoto next time.

Nothing stood out significantly. It’s a good location. Nice staff. Clean. Stuck strictly by their “no check-in until 4pm policy”, which was annoying after traveling all day. I feel like they could have been more flexible rather than making me wait an hour.

Beautiful hotel and the onsen is really nice. Went so often after walking so much. Cloae to the train station.Only issue was language barrier. The apps helped but hotel states they have someone who can speak english and well we had some difficulty.

This ryokan exceeded all expectations. The room was luxuriously huge, and beautifully appointed. Everything was pristine and thoughtful. They even provided a straightener and curling iron in addition to a hair dryer. The futon was firm, but my sleep was restful and refreshing. The traditional Japanese breakfast is not to be missed. It’s both gorgeous and filling- perfect for a day of walking. The staff were very patient with me, as I fumbled through those first few days in Japan. Finally, the onsen was such a bonus. It helped me fight jet lag by helping me to sleep each night.

This is our second time staying here. Staff was amazing. We were only staying for 2 nights and didnt want to bother with housekeeping, but they left a bag full of new towels, water, toiletries for the next night. How considerate. We love this location because its literally 11min from kyoto station, 4 minutes from yodobashi, city central, super busy, but as soon as you turn into this small corner, its very quiet and we love it. The onsen is clean. The private onsen is only 3300 yen for 45min. And they have washer and dryer.
