100ねんも、そこに、存在しているという、タイムスリップしたよう。京都に来たという雰囲気を存分に味わえました。サービスも、とてもよくしてもらって、みなさん、素晴らしい気づかいでした。わたしもサービス業してるのでその辺はきになってしまうし、ダサいのも、あまりすきじゃないし、でも、部屋の広さ、雰囲気、京都ならではの古き良きものが オシャレで、大変きにいりました！周辺も静かなところでしたので、ゆっくりできました！
また是非行きたいです！！

Overall, it was a wonderful stay for us at the traditional Ryokan! The staff and service were amazing; whenever we had an issue they fixed it within minutes. We enjoyed the authentic Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Would highly recommend it to anyone traveling near Kyoto!

We were a family of four and stayed for one night at Seikoro — and everything about our experience, from the warm welcome to the heartfelt farewell, was truly exceptional. We had chosen to include breakfast, and it was absolutely delightful. The in-house public onsen bath added a special touch of relaxation to our stay. It’s an experience we’ll never forget. It was a great break from the city hussle and bustle. They were very atttentive and detailed. I requested for a chocolate cake after dinner for our anniversary and they delivered! I was quite disappointed with my stay at this Ryokan. Contrary to what I was led to believe, the multi-course kaiseki dinner was not included in the booking. In fact, no one ever asked if I wanted to include it. Had I known, I absolutely would have added it, as the kaiseki dinner is often considered the highlight of the Ryokan experience—especially since I paid nearly $1,400 USD for the stay.

While all the staff were extremely kind and courteous, the overall experience didn’t justify the price. Aside from the traditional Japanese breakfast and the old-style public bath, there wasn’t much to set this apart from other hotels I’ve stayed in—many of which offered similar amenities, including Japanese robes (yukata), at a much more reasonable price.

I loved our stay at the ryokan. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy yourself, and the hospitality we experienced really made the trip. From serving our dinner to setting up our beds for the night, they were friendly, respectful, and really made sure we were relaxing and enjoying ourselves.

Our room was quite large and included our own bath and sitting area. We had a view of the back garden. It was clean and comfortable. We chose to have the kaiseki dinner (additional cost), which they served in our room. The Kaiseki dinner we got was delicious and I loved how they explained each course to us.

There is a public bath in the ryokan, which we took advantage of a few times. I only encountered two people the whole time we were there, and it felt like it was my own private bathhouse.

All in all was a wonderful experience and would love to stay here again.

It was an amazing experience. Wife and I loved the culture and learned a lot. I would have loved to put 5 stars but… there was black mold all over our shower room. The black mold was in the wood on the ceiling, walls, near the tub, etc. Which made it stink of mildew and is actually a safety hazard. It’s in serious need of replacing all the wood because you cant just scrub it out; when black mold is in wood, it’s EVERYWHERE.

Otherwise, the staff was VERY lovely and welcoming, the food was amazing, and the view and aesthetics were everything you could ask for to feel like you’re living in a traditional Japanese setting. Would definitely come back one day, hopefully they have the mold issue fixed.

We stayed at Seikoro for 2 nights - we had the best time. The highlights were the breakfast and close proximity to Gion, subway, and tourist spots.

But what made this place special was the amazing staff! They were warm, welcoming and attentive. They helped make reservations and anticipated all our needs. Highly recommend a stay here.

A treat of history and culture

We splurge and glad we did. This was one of the highlight of our trip to Japan. We could have booked a cheaper place but wanted the real deal.... and we were not disappointed. The architecture was authentically exquisite, the service like no other place in the world (we have been most everywhere), the food 1st class, and the bath a real joy. We were so happy. Our memories of this place will last a lifetime.

The real McCoy

Seikoro Ryokan is truly unique. After 23 business trips to Japan over the last decade, I finally took a vacation trip with my wife to see what I had missed. We decided inKyoto to stay at a traditional Ryokan as opposed to the normally outstanding Japanese major hotels. We made the right decision. This was an ethereal 3 days in every way, room was awesome, the breakfasts and one Kaiseki dinner was sublime and service was over the top. This was as an authentic experience as can be had. It was absolutely worth taking my shoes off every time we walked in.

Best hospitality

The hospitality here was on another level, staff was so sweet and lovely. Anytime we came in or out of the ryokan, they would help us take out/put away our shoes. We stayed here for 5 days. The staff were amazing and so friendly. We enjoyed the breakfasts each morning. The rooms were quiet and very comfortable. The public bath was clean and was not busy during our stay.

The area was close to a train station which was helpful in getting around Kyoto. The real highlight was how attentive the staff were to our needs and how kind they all were. We loved the uniqueness of the property and were very glad we stayed.

We wanted an original ryokan experience and we got exactly that. Staff were really lovely. If I did it again as a senior I would request a room with western beds. The tatami mat beds were very comfortable but in a few years I do not think I could get up and down easily. The room did have four chairs but there were five of us. I enjoyed the Onsen bath experience and the Japanese breakfast. Great location, close to a few local restaurants and family mart. Walkable to Ginza District.

I don't know where to begin to describe how amazing this ryokan experience was. From the moment we arrived, the staff were so incredibly welcoming and took such great care of us. The room was so beautiful and comfortable, and our view of the garden was just stunning. We couldn't get over it. The onsen was great, and it ended up being empty so it was nice to enjoy it privately. The kaiseki dinner was absolutely fantastic and far exceeded our expectations. We opted to get a couples massage, which was a really great price and extremely relaxing. The futon beds were so dreamy and cozy. The Japanese style breakfast was so delicious. We've never experienced such amazing hospitality before and we were so sad to leave. It really felt like home here. We really hope to come here again one day!

Staying at a Ryokan is one of the top experiences when visiting Japan. Seikoro Ryokan makes this experience unique and memorable. The place had great vibes from the old style decoration, paper panel doors, small garden and shared bathhouse for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience. Our room attendant was super sweet and explained all the kaiseiki and Japanese breakfast that we were served. The staff were all super attentive and kind. My partner and I had the most wonderful stay at Seikoro! First and foremost, the staff are incredible, kind, and caring. They do their best to ensure that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room and also got the kaiseki dinner and breakfast. I highly recommend all guests take part in the dinner and breakfast service! We got to try so many different flavors and it was all delicious. The futons that we slept on were also extremely comfortable and the amenities are all modern. Staying at Seikoro was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto!

Wonderful Ryokan

This ryokan was wonderful. There were 3 of us and we stayed for 2 nights. The staffs are so friendly and amazing. They treat us so kindly and we are well taken care of. The room was very clean and we enjoyed our stay very much. The breakfast was included with our room and we choose the Japanese style breakfast and it was very delicious. Our room had 2 western style beds and our 3rd guest slept on futon, but all were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this ryokan to everyone who would like to experience a traditional ryokan in Kyoto.

A wonderful ryokan with a truly welcoming and lovely staff. A great location just steps from the subway and useful bus lines, and about a 15 minute walk from the Gion area. Also has a great little onsen to relax the day away!

We had a wonderful stay at Seikoro Ryokan. All of the staff were so lovely and friendly and Tomoko who was serving us personally was very thoughtful and considerate, bringing us things we might want without us even asking (e.g. more cream for our coffee). We had the masa set menu for dinner and it was brilliant as well. We felt bad with the old man who helped us with our bags but he was very strong! I think its a family run business and we were sk glad to stay there and meet them all.

A truly very authentic Japanese ryokan experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Simply amazing!

I don’t even know where to start. This traditional style hotel was an amazing experience from the start to finish. We got there early so they held our bags while we walked around. When we came back our bags were in our room and they brought us a cookie and tea for a snack. We left for dinner and when we came back our beds were setup. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and on time. The staff was so incredibly nice and considerate. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks!

Great experience

What a fun stay. The staff and in particular our room attendant Hiro were fantastic. The arrival and departure rituals were so much fun for my son, with often five or more staff members greeting us or waving goodbye each time we arrived or left. The room was nice, futons a little bit hard and I am just not used to sitting on the ground and getting up from the floor every time. All in all, a great experience and I wouldn't change the experience for something different.

Amazing experience in Kyoto

Seikoro Ryokan is the perfect place to experience Kyoto while getting a glimpse of a traditional guesthouse with a communal bath. We stayed in the family room, which had everything needed for our family to stay in comfort. The staff/service was absolutely wonderful.

My son and I took a trip to Japan and loved the experience. This Ryokan was one of the highlights of our trip. It is a very unique stay and you should plan your evening around it if you choose to stay. This is not like a traditional hotel, you are cared for individually. Yuma was our room attendant and was very sweet. Dinner and breakfast were amazing and she did a great job of explaining what everything was. Super cool experience. I hope Yuma is able to visit NASA one day as she said she loves it.

For $1000 / night this needs to feel like a peaceful well appointed retreat. And our family has seen a ryokan done well. Unfortunately, our first reaction when walking in was to try to find a new place to stay. They do, however, really try to make up for it with service.
The amenities and rooms need upgrading. It’s dated, and we don’t mean in a beautiful antique way, we mean dated. There’s almost no closet space, there’s tons in the room, but they occupy it all with their stuff - and not efficiently. They could easily reappoint some for guests. The centre garden was not visible just leaves out the window. The onsen was nice but could also use an update. Sleeping wasn’t great. Either stay traditional and leave the sleeping mats on the floor or go modern and add comfortable beds. But the choice to balance the larger mats on two smaller wobbly mattresses was uncomfortable and we literally slipped off more than once. At this price point they need a laundry service. Pointing people to the coin laundry down the road would be fine for a hostel.
For service, we felt like royalty but after a couple days their obsequiousness got uncomfortable. We would have liked to sleep in later than 8 before they entered for the room for latest breakfast service option. Food was amazing but the same food 5 days in a row gets boring. They could easily turn this into a $1000/night stay but right now it’s not worth it. For one or two nights it would be fine but we don’t recommend more than that.

Our family had an amazing stay at the Seikoro Ryokan. I would like to thank Akari and Yuma for everything. They made our stay exceptional. I recommend the Kaiseki meal. It is a delicious and memorable experience. We also enjoyed the onsen. It's such a great way to relax after a day of exploring. The Inn is easy walking distance to attractions, dining, shopping and the subway stop is less than a 5 minute walk.

We really enjoyed staying at the ryokan. The service, food, and the experience in general was great. The only thing I have for improvement is the air condition. It was pretty weak or almost non-existent. The temperature was in the 80s and it would have been nice to have a nice cool room. Perhaps we could have asked for a fan.

The service was immaculate and all the staff were very hospitable. The Ryokan was also very beautiful and I lost count of the number of photos I took. You will get a personal attendant to your room who will prepare your food and show you the amenities etc and the one I got spoke English quite well. Overall, it is a little pricy but worth it if you want to experience a Ryokan.

The best experience you can have in Japan

This was an experience we will never forget. It was wonderful to experience Japanese culture in the smallest detail. We were helped by the most amazing woman named Tori who explained and told us several interesting things and facts about Japan and taught us a lot about the culture. The food was delicious, the futons were very comfortable and the room was absolutely perfect with such a nice view of their wonderful garden. The public bath was also perfect.

Beautiful property with kind and helpful staff. We were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed using the public bath as well!
