Probably one of my best hospitality experiences ever. The service was excellent and the room was bigger than I thought, as well as very clean. They prepared some small care packages for every guest of our group with hygiene and care products, which i thought very thoughtful. Our room had extra blankets and pillows, which was practical. The breakfast is beyond amazing - as beautiful as it is delicious. The only thing is regret is that although we turned off the heating system, the room was still very hot and dry during the night (outside was cold), to the point that we had trouble sleeping.

施設自体はそこまで大きくなく、温泉もこじんまりとしたものでした。朝夕の食事付きプランを利用いたしましたが、全体的に少しお値段は高く感じました。
しかし、立地等を考えると仕方がないようにも思えました。
何よりもスタッフの方々のご対応が非常に良く、浴衣に関することで少しトラブルがありましたが早急にご対応していただけました。
また忘れ物をし後日お電話をさせていただいた際も、非常にスムーズなご対応で郵送にて送っていただけました。
これらのサービスの丁寧さを考えるとお値段も妥当ではないかと感じることができました。
とても楽しい旅行となりました。ありがとうございました。

おもてなしの心から来る細やかな気遣いが随所にあらわれており、大変満足の滞在となりました。
施設は清潔でお部屋も綺麗、中には分かりやすい説明書きや、小物置き、延長コードなど痒いところに手の届くアイテムがしっかり置かれてました。
また小さな子供を連れての滞在でしたが、事前に子供メニューの確認や子供の椅子、おむつポットの手配なども確認させていただき、安心して泊まることができました。
お迎えお見送りも常に暖かく、またぜひ泊まりたいと思わせてくれるお宿でした。ご飯もとてもおいしかったです！

街中に近い情緒あふれる宿

四条・錦市場から至近の便利な場所にありながら、情緒あふれる造りの宿です。
スタッフもよく訓練されており、心地よいサービスを受けられます。私は家内が滞在の夜から具合が悪くなり、翌朝病院に行きたいとお願いしたところ、関連の病院をすぐに探して頂いたうえ電話で先方に確認いただきタクシーも手配してもらって、無事受診。何事もなく、ほっとして帰宅の途に着くことができました。宿泊客にとってみれば、当たり前の対応ですが、実際にはなかなかスムースに行かずに苦労するものです。
部屋は広めで真新しい畳に行き届いた清掃状況で、大変気持ちよく過ごせました。

感動する位、おもてなしの素晴らしい宿

昨年末、家族３人で利用させて頂きました。口コミの評価以上に、おもてなしの素晴らしい宿でした。チェックイン時にお茶菓子とともに抹茶を頂き、部屋は広くて、とてもきれいでした。そして、アメニティグッズの入った巾着袋を頂き、浴衣に着替え、大浴場に。浴衣は小学校３年の娘には少し大きかったのが唯一残念な点でした。大浴場は洗練された落ち着く空間で、マイナスイオンドライヤーも完備しています。部屋に戻ると、待ちに待った夕食。工夫を凝らした懐石料理を存分に堪能することができ、とてもおいしく頂けました。娘にはどうかな〜と思いましたが、結構いろいろなものに箸を付けて美味しいと言ってました。もちろん娘の残したものは私たち夫婦が頂きました。朝食も夕食と同じくらい全く手を抜いておらず、感動しました。そして、チェックアウト時にもお土産を頂き、従業員の方に姿が見えなくなるまで見送られ、この旅館に泊まって本当に良かったという満足感を得ながら、宿を後にしました。どの従業員もとても細やかな心遣いが出来る方々ばかりで、今まで宿泊したホテル、旅館の中でぴか一のNo.1の宿です。

初めて泊まりましたが、雰囲気も良くて、フロントの応対も良かったです。京都のお友達が一緒だったのですが、その人達にも笑顔で応対してくれました。帰りにはお土産も頂き、見えなくなるまで送り出ししてくれました。また機会があれば、泊まりたいです。

Matsui Honkan is our first experience at Ryokan. It was a fantastic stay. The staff were supper friendly. The served breakfast and dinner were not only delicious but also looked great in the presentation.
The location of the property is excellent. Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi Street, Pontocho Alley are all within minutes of walking distance.
I would recommend anyone who would like to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan.

Everyone was so helpful and nice! The food was amazing and the experience a 10/10 would recommend for anyone traveling and looking for a relaxing stay. In the morning they shipped our bags to the next location and we were able to enjoy the location for the rest of the day bag free. So awesome!

Basic ryokan situated in the heart of Kyoto, perfect location with lots around. However, the room was not the cleanest. We found a messy, unfolded duvet thrown in the closet and a few strands of hair in the bedding. Assuming the duvet was used by the previous guest and not folded by housekeeping after guests checked out.

Nous avons profité de la proximité du quartier de Gion où nous sommes allés tous les jours à pied. Également à deux pas du marché Nishiki.

Lovely Ryokan hotel. We spent 2 nights and could enjoy great and unforgettable experiences. Room with Tatami floor was spacious and clean and we had slept perfectly well. Hotel staff was lovely and friendly. Thank you very much. Food was brilliant. Hot bathroom in the basement used to refresh and relax. Great location to discover Kyoto. We were totally happy for such fantastic experience.

A Must

Amazing hotel, warm staff, a great way to enrich yourself with Japanese customs. Had the breakfast each morning. It was fresh, presented beautifully & a fun treat. Kyoto is so lovely, this hotel was perfect walking distance to many shops & restaurants. Highly recommend.

While it may feel like a long walk from the train station, the location is a good jumping off point for getting to the many sites around Kyoto and the rooms and service are great. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a more traditional experience.

Nice stay

Good location. The hotel staff is very friendly, the service is more "personalized" feels rather than the chain hotel style. Make sure you pick the rate include breakfast and dinner; the food is good and is so much cheaper if you eat similar food at the near restaurant. I am not sure the water at hot shared bath on the basement floor is coming from onsen or not, but it does help to release some stress from a day of walking. Overall, I am happy with the stay; my recommendation is to order breakfast and dinner if you are staying, you will get more value out from it.

Une expérience japonaise

Si vous êtes à la recherche d'une expérience très "japonaise" et que vous êtes prêts -soyons honnête- à y mettre les moyens sans devoirs sortir du centre de Kyoto, matsui honkan sera parfait pour vous.
En effet, l'hôtel est situé à côté du nishiki market et des rues typiques et touristiques à visiter.
Le service était exceptionnel, on sent qu'il y a une bonne ambiance dans l'équipe et tous parlent anglais.
Les bains (séparés homme/femme) permettent de se détendre après une journée de visite et sont ouvert jusqu'à tard dans la nuit.
Je conseille le petit déjeuner en supplément, au moins un matin car il vaut le détour.
Si il fallait trouver un point négatif, je dirais un prix un peu élevé.

The staff were so kind and welcoming. This is set up as a traditional ryokan so you will remove your shoes inside the front door of your room and sleep on a futon on the tatami mat floor. With that said it was comfortable enough that even with a bad back and hips I slept pretty well. The location is fantastic a couple blocks from Nishiki market and walking distance to Gion and its surrounding areas. My husband used the onsen and said it was great. We didn't book a dinner as we had too much on our schedule, but if our elaborate delicious breakfast was any indication of their skills I bet it would be a fantastic experience. I would stay more than one night the next time

Lovely experience. Would go there again!

We came with two young children (9Y and 6Y). It is very near the 錦市場 (にしき いちば Nikishi Market). Though the ryokan is a bit "old", the room is spacious and very clean and the tatami is very comfortable. The spa is often great.
The breakfast in the room is also awesome. The staff is very friendly.
Highly recommend trying the kimono/yukata, esp for kids! kids look lovely in yukata!!
We would definitely come here again if we visits Kyoto again.

Pleasant Stay

This is a small hotel run by a friendly staff. The room we had was spacious, clean, nicely designed and decorated. It is a combination of western beds and traditional Japanese sitting area with a private bath and toilet. Its is quiet and close enough to catch various subway trains. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I will stay here again if I ever visit Kyoto again.

Great breakfasts

Great location, quiet and convenient. Be sure to get the Japanese breakfast—a once in a lifetime experience. Our boys (12 and 14) enjoyed the hotel and its amenities as much as I did. The one piece of furniture we missed was a couch—which was fine as we did want to get the authentic Japanese experience. Front desk was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and reservations. Even though one of us is vegetarian, their breakfasts and restaurant choices were still solid. Highly recommended.

Authentic Japanese - Don't Expect Western Comfort

I would recommend that before booking this hotel you know exactly what you are getting. It is an authentic, traditional Japanese hotel - with full tatami mat floors, futon beds and low, minimalist furniture. If you are expecting a western-style hotel, do not book here. It is very clean and the staff are excellent, but you may wake up with a very stiff back.

Fabulous experience

Great location but very run down

This place costs ALOT but do not expect quality, it feels cheap and run down. Popular with Japanese families though - maybe works with many people sharing room. Shared bath is nice enough though.

Great room at modern inn.

Amazing Japanese style inn. Great service and amenities. Only negatives were spotty wifi and firm floor futon bedding (still passable though, just used to a softer bed). Also not too close to train station (closest is a 12 minute walk), but only 2 blocks from Nishiki food market. In room breakfast was fantastic and convenient.

Traditional ryokan with onsen in central Kyoto

Convenient location in central Kyoto, amidst the modern buildings and near transit, but feeling very secluded. You will sleep on futons rolled out by your room attendant on the tatami mats. In the morning the attendant rolls them up and puts them away and serves you breakfast (fantastic Japanese food for the first breakfast) in your room. Enjoy the kaiseki dinner in-room for a treat. Try the onsen and soak in the hot water while looking at the beautiful stone wall with waterfall.

While the facilities were very clean and the location was great, I found the front desk staff to be a little frigid and curt, they had a very limited command of English also. The futons were a bit thin and we had to ask for more pillows. The public baths were lovely though. A nice ryokan.l but overall I have to say that I didn't feel particularly welcomed here.

一進門就有美味的茶點，行李也幫我們拿去房間，晚餐和早餐都在房間用餐非常美味，鋪床時候深怕耽誤時間是兩人一起出動，還在枕頭上放紙鶴祝我們好眠，早餐也是三人出動，還貼心開窗換氣，也不知道是不是剛好情人節原因，煎蛋捲是愛心形狀的，很驚喜，離開前還不斷感謝我們，非常好的住宿經驗
