離れ 山家荘

普通には良いが、高すぎる。

離れは雰囲気も良く、とても良かったですが、かなり古い建物で全体が歩くたびに軋みます。
部屋付き内温泉ということで楽しみにしていましたが、1人が体育座りになってやっと入れるほどの小さいお風呂で、ゆっくりは入れませんでした。
写真では大きそうに見えたので、残念でした。
その代わり、離れの客が使える家族風呂や、本館の方と一緒に使える露天風呂、大浴場がありました。

サービスも丁寧でとても良いのですが、玄関にお給仕スタッフさんからのノックが来たらすぐに出ないと、大声で叫ばれ、回り込んで窓までガンガンと叩かれ、急かされている感じが多々ありました。内線電話があるのだから、急ぎや食事の時以外は電話で教えて欲しかったです。
高級旅館という感じの落ち着きはありません。


食事はどれも美味しく、量もちょうど良く満足でしたが、今回は休日ということもあってか12万円以上払っているので、お夕食はお刺身や、メインのお肉などの量がもう少しあっても良かったかと思います。
全体的に、15,000円くらいで食べられそうなものたちでした。もう少し、目を引く豪華なものが欲しかったです。

電波はほぼないですが、少し繋がる程度。
Wi-Fiは、茶屋からしか使えず、お風呂の帰りに湯上がりドリンクのサービスもあるというので行ってみると、コンセントに差し込むタイプのソフトバンクエアーを導入しているだけだったので、そこに行ってもWi-Fiは弱く、動画やゲームなどはできません。
湯上がりドリンクはウィダーやお茶、コーヒー、サイダーがあり良かったです。

しかし、部屋のお風呂にお湯を貯めるのにとても時間を要することと居間の天井の一部がめくれかけている事、Wi-Fiが特定の場所でしか使えない点が気になりました。

価格（5万位）の割に総体的な満足度が低かったです。離れの宿に泊まったのですが、風情のある素敵な旅館というよりも、古びた民家の印象で、どこかのおばあちゃんの家に泊まったような感じでした。寝室やトイレ、作務衣の臭いが気になりました。お食事は美味しかったですが、魯山人の雰囲気は感じられませんでした。接客は丁寧ではありましたが、リラックスできませんでした。価格から考えると、全体的にプロフェッショナルな仕事ぶりが感じられず残念でした。

古いです

うーん。。古民家のコンセプトなのですが、ホントに古いです。
日があたらないせいか何となく床も座布団も部屋着もじっとり、、
部屋着は臭いが気になりました
本館のエレベーターも、、

他のお客さんが通るたびに部屋の中が見えてしまってちょっと気になりました


部屋についているお風呂は温泉らしいのですが小さくて陰気な感じでちょっと入る気が起きなかったです(>_<)
写真だと本館の露天風呂が素敵そうだったので楽しみにしてたのですが、男女入れ替え制でどちらかしか入れないのと行くまでが大変で一度しか入れませんでした。
大浴場はただの銭湯のようだったし、貸しきりの家族風呂は覗いたらゴキブリが歩いてて無理でした
なので温泉は楽しめませんでした。。


食事も昔ながらの旅館飯で正直美味しくはなかったです。
唯一お米が硬めに美味しく炊けていました！

ドライヤーがリファなのは良かったです

仲居さんは一所懸命やってくれていい方でした。

部屋でWi-Fiが使えないのも、テレビが小さいのも折角温泉に来たのだからゆっくりするためと思うのですが、肝心の温泉があまりでした

日本家屋の感じは好きだし雰囲気もあるのでもうちょっと上手くできたらすごく良くなると思うのになぁと感じました。

もうちょっとやる気のある宿かと思いました。

離れと言うことで部屋出しの食事とともにそれなりの価格ではありました。トイレのスリッパが汚い。お料理の中に変な匂いのするものがあり少し気持ち悪くなりました。おもてなしの気概がもう一つ感じられないお宿でした。

タイムスリップ

これ以上のレベルを求めるのは難しいくらい、最高のサービス品質でした。古民家のノスタルジーが昭和生まれの私には、なんとも言えない郷愁でした。人通りが多い通りに面しているのですが、塀の向こうは別世界でした。庭もきれいで離れ専用の家族風呂、4回も入りました。が、蛇口とシャワーはもう少し改善の余地ありですね。

素敵な離れのお部屋でしたが残念な点が…

日本庭園囲まれた静かな離れのお部屋で、古民家のような雰囲気がとてもよかったです。残念なのは、お部屋のトイレと露天風呂です。古民家なので仕方ないのかもしれませんが、トイレは異臭が漂い、前の宿泊者のものと思われる汚れが便器に…露天風呂は遠い上に、体洗えない状態でした。水道からのお湯がほとんど出ず、シャンプーも置かれていませんでした。一泊で十分でした。

No Dinner

Booked through hotels.com. I thought that, since this was a ryokan and other reviews mentioned the amazing Kaiseki style dinner they served, that dinner would come with my booking.

There was no additional option when booking to specify whether I wanted dinner or not; so I figured it was implied/included, as it has been for other Ryokan bookings.

Turns out, somehow, despite being $600+ a night, my booking did NOT include dinner.

This wasn't made clear to me until after dinner never showed up the first night.

So, after bathing and putting on my yukata and relaxing with a beer, I had to trudge back outside in my streetwear where the only thing open was an Izakaya with a 1.5 hour wait.

I complained to the staff in the morning, and they refused to do anything to make it right. If I wanted dinner that following night, I'd have to pay 20,900 yen more.

This overall RUINED my experience for these two days of my trip, which were also, by far, the most expensive accommodations.

Given this I cannot award any stars to this place.

The actual room and hotel grounds were nice, but not worth getting my trip screwed over.

DO NOT BOOK. Find something else, one that will not screw you over on the experience.

We came to Japan to experience the culture. Hakone hotel Sensei was perfect. Beautiful room with private onsen. We also experienced the open air onsen. The dinner and breakfast was fantastic. My only complaint was too much food.

The stay at Yamagaso was a unique experience. I recommend doing the half board as the Kaseiki dinner and the breakfast were fantastic! We also love the private onsen and the convenient access to the other onsen at the hotel next door.

Wow! What an amazing experience. We had a beautiful stay , our only regret was that we could not stay longer. We highly recommend this traditional Ryokan. Kimiko our host is a beautiful souls and made ourv stay that much more special. The food is incredible, the private ohnsen was better than expected. You will not be disappointed with a stay here.

Das Yamagaso war relativ teuer. Wir haben dann aber bemerkt, dass an diesem Wochenende der «Bunka no Hi» (japanischer Kulturtag) war und alle Welt unterwegs.
Die Begrüssung und Einführung durch das Personal war sehr, sehr freundlich und persönlich. Wir erhielten Grüntee und Süssigkeiten, während uns die Yukata und Pyjamas bereitgelegt wurden.
Wir genossen die Stille, welche nur durch das Rauschen des Flusses und das Geplätscher der Bächlein und des Brunnens unterbrochen wurde. Das Zimmer war sehr gross und der Schlaf auf dem Futon war geruhsam.
Es hat einen grossen Indoor-Onsen beim Hotel drüben, sowie einen weiteren Outdoor-Onsen im vierten Stock dort. Der ist etwas schwieriger erreichbar, aber auch sehr schön.
Das Hotel erreicht man zu Fuss in rund 15 Minuten vom Bahnhof Hakone-Yumoto aus.
Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen hier.

We had a fantastic stay at Yamagaso. We were able to drop our bags off at the main hotel so we could go sightseeing before check-in. Dinner was a delicious kaiseki meal served in our room. It was great having our own private bath in our villa with hot spring water. Our host Momo-san was sweet and very helpful. If we ever return to Hakone we would love to stay here again.

My experience at Yamagaso was amazing. The service was beyond exceptional, the staff pay attention to every single small and big detail. My family felt they staff really cared for each of us (my teenage boys had so my gratitude for how they showed us around the onsen and explained the traditions). If you are looking to experience a traditional onsen, Yamagaso wil give you that.

The property is beautiful, I felt the pictures cannot capture the beauty until you see it for yourself. We were able to use all the baths (actually had them to ourselves most of the time!).

The food was amazing. They served traditional set course meals and it was very large portions, you will not be hungry for days afterwards! We are willing to try all foods , so we appreciated eating traditional dishes that are very different.

The property is easily accessible from Yumoto station, they staff helped give us directions to take one bus and inform the bus driver where to stop. They had a shuttle service for departing the onsen back to the train station.

Overall Yamagaso was an experience of a lifetime and probably the best thing our family experienced in Japan…of all vacations we have ever done. If I could rate this place 100 out of 10 I would! Thank you to the staff for making this so special and making a dream come true!

This place blew us away! We stayed in the Yamagaso annex in the Chouji room. The area was great, a nice walk or bus ride from the station. Then the room, we were very impressed! Traditional style with the tatami mats. We had the half board which included breakfast and dinner. The amount and variety of food was spectacular! The staff were super friendly too, everyone we met was great! We used the private bath, public bath and the outdoor bath at night which were all very nice and relaxing. I'm not sure how this place could be any better for a relaxing few days in Hakone, would definitely come back every time!

시간적 여유만 있었다면 2박, 3박 하면서 하루는 숙소에서만 쉬고 싶을 정도로 평화롭고 아름다운 공간이었어요! 코타츠에서 차를 마시고 도톰한 이불에서 잠을 자고 숙소 내 개인탕에서 온천을 즐기고 야마가소 안 가족탕에서도 행복한 시간을 보낼 수 있었습니다!

What a wonderful experience from the minute we arrived after a hard day of travel. Greeted with a beautiful cottage with private spring bath, a delightful inn keeper who made us feel welcome with tea, treats and origami cranes as well as a genuine traditional experience we will never forget. Don't go, find a better deal in surrounding hotels

We went (couple) to this hotel because wanted private spa experience in room as described in room description. No private spa was available, only shared spa area between different rooms . This spa could only be used If no one else was using spa. I don't consider this a private room spa but rather a shared spa (if available). We did not have chance to go. We had to book another private spa in area. The experience was very expensive, disappointing and I felt as a I was deceived (not to say taken) by hotel description and paid way more than other surrounding hotels. The only positive point was that staff was extremely friendly, helpful and our food plan was excellent. however, this could not compensate for not having a private room spa or fireplace. The residence was also very humide and the traditional bed was un sleepable. Wifi and water was only available at lobby (50 meters from room during the rain).
All in all, I would not recommend this hotel. Value for money was very low.

Kimiko-san, our greeter at Yamagaso was amazing. A wonderful experience, the family onsen seemed to always be open right when we wanted it. The only regret is that we booked with out the meal. From what I've read that is a must and we plan on getting it next time. It was a wonderful experience in a beautiful setting... not sure what the negative reviewers saw that we didn't. Highly recommended.

Yamagaso Annex was truly a unique experience. It was a great way to experience traditional Japanese ryokan lodgings. Each "room" is actually a standalone house with its own tub that sources hot spring water.

The staff spoke very limited English and it was difficult at times to understand the instructions for using the various onsen the property, although they provided helpful print-out instructions. They were very involved involved throughout the entire stay, which some guests may not enjoy. They came to visit me twice in the morning--once to check if I had used the mini-bar and once to bring me some tea. I would have preferred fewer visits and more privacy.

All the large onsen (indoor and outdoor) are shared with guests of the other two Senkei properties. The onsen were the highlight of my trip - they were extremely relaxing and it was easy to get an hour or two all to myself because there were not many guests. I would definitely recommend trying the large public onsen. The in-room tub felt more like a bath.

The traditional style and ambience of the Ryokan was beautiful. We were welcomed at reception then taken to our house for the night. I never expected it to be so spacious with parts opening out to the garden. Our kaiseki dinner and breakfast were so well thought out, exquisitely prepared & served by 2 delightful Japanese ladies. They were our right hand - showing us the different onsen spaces, taking pics & organising the shuttle back to town. The rooftop onsen is a must as it looks out to mountains & the couples onsen too as it’s private & has a unique touch too. All up we feel we have spent a week in Japan after only one night! So highly recommended from 2 novices whose first time visit was made oh so special!

Family hotel, kind people, a couple bugs

The grounds are gorgeous, and are just an easy 10 minute walk from the station, its close to two different waterfalls. It says 2 minutes, but its 5, but yea, both beautiful.

The hotel is nice, offers inside onsen, open air, and family, with some restricted times. Family one was pretty available most of the time, but nothing fancy.

Our complaint was the bugs. We walked into the lobby to immediately spot a 3 inch centipede looking thing with one inch legs, we from there called it the alien bug, we also had to take out a few ants, a spider and a roach from our room. So, because the beds are on the floor we couldn't completely relax. The rooms are very beautiful from their traditional feeling, but we found them a bit closed in, even for a Ryokan. I am surprised by the cost of this hotel and was expecting much more based on what we paid for it.

Perhaps the superior rooms are better, we thought we were getting that actually but somehow purchased a standard without our knowing.

Also, note that all rooms are considered smoking, but we asked to have ours deodorized and it smelled completely neutral.

Une expérience à vivre!

C est un très joli endroit, devant une rivière, mais on reste quand même en ville car il y a des habitations et des hôtels à côté, mais on se sent dans la campagne japonaise.
On est très bien accueilli par un personnel attentionné et chaleureux. Ils comprennent pas tous très bien l anglais, mais comme souvent au Japon, on se fait comprendre sans problème.
Il n y a que 5 petites maisons réparties dans le jardin à la japonaise magnifique, fleuri, très bien entretenu.
On s y promène en habit traditionnel pour aller dans le onsen privé, il y a un autre onsen public et encore un autre en exterieur au 5e étage de l hôtel d à côté. Celui ci est magnifique avec l eau de source chaude qui vient vous réchauffer quand il fait froid dehors, avec une vue magnifique sur la vallée.
Les chambres sont confortables, autant que peut être une chambre traditionnelle avec salon et chambre séparée, j avais pris salle de bain en plus, mais si on va à l onsen, pas besoin de salle de bain.
C est spacieux, calme et reposant avec des fauteuils devant la baie vitrée donnant sur le jardin.
Les repas du soir, comme souvent dans les ryokans au Japon, se prennent à 18h et c est délicieux! De la très bonne cuisine typique avec beaucoup de plats, un vrai festin de saveurs japonaises.
Le petit déjeuner est servi très tôt, entre 7:30 et 8:30, c est un petit déjeuner traditionnel, donc pas de croissant 😉, les saveurs de poissons sont un peu dures à avaler le matin, mais c est une expérience à faire!!

Loved it - Beautiful garden

I really loved this place. It isn’t perfect and designed and new but it feels traditional and authentic. I loved the area, the fact you can easily walk into Hakone, the garden, the family onsen and the kind older Japanese lady who visits and serves tea. Please don’t go there and expect five star hotel service but appreciate the simplicity and the nature. I thought the place was magical and l loved the cracks in the wall and the fact it wasn’t all shiny and new. It was charming and delightful. I was glad not to be up in the mountains but still have them in the doorstep.

Two relaxing nights

We decided to spend two nights outside Tokyo and Hakone is only an hour from Tokyo by train. Hakone-Yumoto is a nice little town with restaurants and shops. The walk to the hotel was quite pleasant, going down the main street in town then veered off along the rapid, a bit uphill. We had out backpacks on so it's not a problem. Carrying luggage may not be as easy. The hotel sit in between two modern style hotels, with a few story buildings. Surprisingly while at the hotel, we didn't feel that we were crammed between two buildings. The setting was traditional Japanese with a quaint garden. There was a private family onsen on site, which suited our need just fine. There were also two other onset, one open air in the main Senkei Yamagano building. We did one night half board and one night without meal. It was good to experience Kaiseki as well as other food options in town. The room we had was spacious, with a separate living room and bedroom. Free soda drinks and coffee were a plus. Happy with our stay.

Authentic ryokan experience.

This was my second ryokan experience and I was left slightly disappointed. Staff were very sweet but had very limited English so communication was difficult. Dining was in-room which was fun but it also felt slightly uncomfortable, like having servants, and also a bit obtrusive as there were many interruptions with staff coming in and out.
Room was fairly old but nice, with great views over the garden. I didn't realise that Yamagaso is the annex of a connected hotel, rather than being an independent ryokan. The public onsen is shared with the hotel, there is also a smaller private onsen.
Dishes were really nicely presented but the food was quite challenging. There was more raw fish/seafood than I could enjoy and the cooked parts included a fish head (which was very nice). Breakfast didn't let up with many more slimy textures and raw seafood. I'd been enjoying Japanese food for nearly 2 weeks but this was the tipping point of too much. I don't know whether this was just a more traditional Japanese ryokan dinner, or whether the quality of the cooking was slightly lacking making it more of a challenge. At a previous ryokan dinner everything had been thoroughly enjoyed while still having a large raw/fishy/slimy component.
At nearly £400/night I'd hoped for more, but I think Hakone comes with a premium and the true value is a bit less. Location was ok, nice walking up/down the valley but still felt like you were in a tourist hotspot rather than somewhere quiet and peaceful.

Magical place

Absolutely lovely ryokan a short walk (with a bit of a hill climb) from Hakone-Yamota station. Magical place with several separate ryokan rooms. Moss covered stones lined the stone paths and steps up to our room. The room was like a little apartment, quite big with a kitchenette large living room and bath/toilet in separate rooms. The outdoor hot springs were up on the top of the hillside and a large tiled traditional hot tub that was private for small groups (fancy system of waiting till there were no flipflops in the front room to know if occupied) on the lower hillside. Kimiki, the older woman brought us tea a few tie and was very grandmotherly concerned about our needs. The little town did fall asleep early so finding dinner after 8:30 was a challenge, but we did find a decent meal and it was a great and memorable experience overall.

Disappointing start to our Japan journey

We paid a lot of money to stay at this hotel and arrived at about 2pm. Check in is at 3 o'clock. The actual entrance to the annex was closed and we had to find our way to the main hotel where we were allowed to leave our luggage. We had a private cottage which was very spacious, however it was looking tired, the brick walls were marked and need repainting and the paper doors also very marked and needed replacing.
The reserved family bath 'onsen' was also looking tired and in need of repainting, there was a lot of mould on the walls and whilst this is like a steam room, I would expect this at least to be cleaned daily.
We were asked what time we would like our Kaseki dinner, on the first night we said 6 o'clock as we had had a very long day travelling from the UK. It turned up at 5.30. We let this go but on the second night were given the optional of several times and chose 7pm. There was then a lot of back pedaling as they wanted to serve it earlier. We stuck to 7pm and were served 7 courses within 45 mins. We were still eating the first course of sashimi, the second had been delivered and then the third hot fish dish arrived. The whole meal was rushed and not a great experience.
We had to leave by 8am to catch a train the following day and were offered the choice of Japanese or Western breakfast. We requested Western breakfast at 7am but they couldn't provide it that early so we had Japanese. We definitely wouldn't go back.

독채로 이루어진 훌륭한 전통 료칸

최고급의 럭셔리한 료칸은 아니지만 모든 객실이 독채이고 정원도 아름다운 훌륭한 료칸이었다. 하코네유모토역에서 도보로 10분 정도 거리에 있고 경사도 심하지 않아서 걸어갈 수도 있다. 음식은 가격대비 나쁘지는 않았지만 기대 이상은 아니었다. 개인탕이 없고 가족탕만 있어서 아쉬웠는데 노천탕은 아니지만 3명의 가족이 이용하기에는 아주 좋았다. 객실이 아주 넓지는 않았지만 거실과 침실이 분리되어 있어서 편리했다. 룸담당 직원들은 아주 기초적인 영어 밖에 못했지만 큰 불편은 없었고 아주 친절했다. 다다미 방이 있는 목조건물이라서 조금 냄새가 나긴 했지만 일본 전통 료칸을 체험하는 즐거움이 훨씬 더 컸다. 정원이 아름다워서 사진도 예쁘게 나오고 직원들이 사진 잘 나오는 곳에서 찍어주기도 한다. 셔틀버스는 없는 줄 알았는데 체크아웃할 때 옆에 붙어 있는 센케이 호텔 셔틀버스를 불러줄 수 있다고 했다.

Did not see many recent reviews which did this hotel a bit of an injustice. Some of the cottage exteriors could use a bit updating (i.e. peeling wood) but overall we had an excellent stay and this was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The hotel was very accommodating - an attendant greeted us at check in and took our heavy bags right to our room (and we had a LOT of luggage). Upon arrival, we were immediately given a quick tour of the property with the house staff showing us where the private family bath was located and how to put your slippers outside to indicate if it was occupied (we never had a problem during our stay) and then they took us to our cottage - a fairly large-sized one - and served us hot green tea and a snack (tasted like marzipan). Our main room attendant then outfitted us in the complimentary yukata, showing us how to correctly tie it. The staff spoke great English and they were very nice, allowing us to choose a later dining time to settle in first (we had a choice of 6:30 or 7pm). They even found child-size slippers for our two year old to wear. About 20 minutes prior to dinner the staff began setting up our room, and served us 7 courses spaced apart- salmon, shell crab, sashimi, plum wine, snapper, eggplant, shabu shabu, fresh clam soup, tempura, pickled veggies, tea, rice and dessert. We enjoyed the outside family bath followed by another private bath in our room - there are additional same sex baths next door. Great stay - would go again!

Detta är en riktig Ryokan

Om man vill uppleva att bo i en japansk Ryokan skall man välja detta ställe.
Servicen är förstklassig och man har en helt egen onsen i huset samt en större som man disponerar helt privat om man vill.
Middagen är helt japansk så man får pröva på alla japanska delikatesser.
Däremot kan man välja västerländsk frukost om man inte tycker t ex picklad rå fisk mm.

Traditional ryokan with private onsen.

Loved the various options for the onsen. They have a private onsen which was lovely. They also have an outdoor option at the sister hotel next door which has different times for men and women. When I went I had the outdoor onsen to myself at night. Beautiful. Staff were also very friendly and helpful
