歩いてすぐ繁華街がありますが、旅館の付近は静かです。

こじんまりした旅館ですが、案内された部屋は広々としていてのんびりできました。
ただ朝食事から帰ったら冷房が効いてなく、エアコン切られたのかなあ、と暑い中帰り自宅をしました。それさえ無ければ文句なしです。

京都を味わえる心遣いのホテル

駅やバス停は少し遠いですが、そこに向かうまでに錦市場など多くのお店があるので、京都を味わえる立地です。また女将さんや仲居さんの丁寧な対応があるので快く過ごせます。外国人のお客様が多いですが、ほとんどすれ違わなかったです。朝食もとても美味しいですよ。

ロケ－ション抜群。

町の中心街、繁華街にすごく近くて大変素敵なロケ－ションです。
但し残念なのは門限が11であり、その後の時間は出入りが出来なくなることです。
繁華街の中心街で夜の町京都も存分に楽しめないのが少し残念でした。
当然チェックイン時間の指定はあってしかるべきですが、また、繁華街の中心街であるがゆえに、セキュリティーの上で門限を設ける必要があるのかもしれませんが、何か一工夫あれば最高のロケ－ションですので、評価は必ずもっと高くなると思います。

ロケーションが良い

アメリカの友人から旅館のリクエストがあり、ここにしました。錦市場に非常に近いのが非常に良かったです、多少の雨なら傘が無くても大丈夫、買い物などを楽しめます。エントランスからフロントの和な雰囲気、布団の寝心地、朝食の味や品数の外国人受けしてました。部屋等それ程広くはないものの、清掃も行き届いており、満足な滞在でした。

静かですが便利で快適

早めに着きましたがお部屋に入れていただきました。荷物を置く場所もありお部屋は充分広く快適でした。
静かですが便利な場所にあり、どこへ出かけるのも楽でした。
お宿の皆さんも親切で良い滞在になりました。

Super super friendly stuff! Great location for walking around the market. we had a short stay in Kyoto so sleeping on the floor was not a big problem. Great to experience Japanese culture. The breakfast was Wowing and festive. Highly recommended.

Comfortable Ryokan in Kyoto

Very friendly and sweet couple running the ryokan. The made you feel like you were home. The ryokan was very clean and the rooms were spacious. We appreciated the private bathroom and also used the public bath. They provided hot water and tea along with wonderful cookies. We really like the location which was adjacent to Nishiki Market. We would definitely stay here again.

The owners are so nice and thoughtful. Always greeting us on our return. The public bath is nice and the breakfast is delicious. The location is perfect. Very close to Nishiki market and walkable to the Gion. We always enjoy our stay here and can’t wait to return.

It was so nice. I went with 4 of my friends (5 including me). The place wasn’t so big, pretty small inn. The old man and old lady welcomed us extremely kindly and were engaging in conversations. They try their very best speaking English so they can appeal to the foreigners and I thought that was very nice. The public bath was also small, but was well taken care of, I had a nice bath and well rested sleep. Inside the rooms we were provided with Yukata, very comfortable to sleep in. They even offer snacks as a freebie on the table inside the room. Next to the Nishiki Market. Overall, such an amazing place. I would definitely book again if I ever go back to Kyoto!

Lovely bed & breakfast inn with tatami floor beds

Lovely bed-and-breakfast inn, with owner staying at one of the units.

Convenient location from the main shopping & restaurant area, and also walkable to subway.

Hard to hail taxi outside of the hotel when we need to go to the airport. So the hotel calls taxi for us. We waited for about 10 min before the taxi came, which is ok.

The room has tatami floor, which is one of the reasons we chose this inn. Room was warm at night, with a temperature control inside the room that we can adjust & turn on/off.

The bathroom in our unit was the Japanese type. A little chair was available inside to sit down & take shower. There is a bath tub too.

The onsen on 2/F is tiny but comfortable. Can fit 2 people at most, or 3 people who are close to each other, I'd say. Otherwise it would be very crowded to use the onsen. There are only 2 bathing slots at the onsen anyway. The changing room outside the onsen is tiny, which was fine for us 2 people.

The breakfast in the morning was filling & look VERY beautiful. It was the reason why my sister chose to stay at this hotel, and it's worth it! :)

Hotel can keep our bags at the common area outside of reception after check-out, which is very helpful for us to go around the city on our last day.

The only question we have is why the room was only half-cleaned when we went back in the evening. We had 2 beds on the tatami floor, but only 1 bed was nearly tidied up -- the other bed was clearly not tidied up at all. Strange.

This was an amazing place! We had never stayed in a Royal con before, and very glad we chose this location. The owners were extremely friendly, and the room was very comfortable. We enjoyed the traditional breakfast, and access to the public bath (a must try experience). I highly recommend this hotel.!

It was my first time in Japan, so Kyo-no-Yado Kagihei was my very first ryokan experience. I stayed for a few days and loved every moment of it. The Japanese style room was very comfortable and cozy. I appreciated the daily restock of tea, cookies, and bottled drinks. The property is located in a very convenient location as I was able to go sightseeing, shop, and even just wander around Kyoto to appreciate the slow vibe. Tomo and Yuko, the owners of the ryokan, were so sweet and kind to me. I felt so welcomed and at home. The entire staff is just as gentle and considerate. Highly recommend this property. I already miss everyone (and the Japanese breakfast!).

Quaint Traditional Japanese Hotel

This ryokan exceed all expectations . The two owners of the house, a couple, were the sweetest people. Super helpful and they knew english. The rooms were so cool in traditional style and the public bath was cool to see. I will say personally i found the beds to be a bit too firm, but my travel companions thought they were better than some hotel beds. So it is just personal preference but i’d stay here again. Loved the traditional breakfast we had and the laundry service is phenomenal, you pay the lady owner and she does it for you! Overall great place and the location was amazing, walking distance from all the shopping.

Non mi è piaciuto il fatto che il check out fosse alle 10 invece delle 11 come negli altri hotel. Anche il check in è alle 4 invece delle 3. La cosa peggiore è stato il cattivo odore che c'era nella struttura. Consiglio di utilizzare profumi per ambienti

This ryokan exceeded our expectations in so many ways! Rooms are pretty large, shower is separated from toilet and sink so it made it easier for me and my daughter to get ready and go about our daily routine.

Location couldn’t be better. Two blocks away from the famous by Nishiki market, 10-15 minutes away from Kyoto station and walking distance to restaurants, bars, shopping and anything else you can think of. Great location to explore the city and it’s temples (not walking distance but easy to access if you buy hop-on/hop-off tickets since there’s a stop a few blocks away from the hotel.

The owners run the hotel so we saw them first thing in the morning, when getting breakfast, and at night, when we returned to the hotel. Breakfast here is a HUGE highlight, but you need to be willing and looking forward to experiencing a genuine Japanese breakfast, sometimes with flavors you never tasted before. It is majestically served in a private room, so the moment we walked in, the table was served and ready for us. I definitely recommend this hotel and I’ll book my stay here whenever we go back to Kyoto.

Ryokan experience in Kyoto

Excellent service great place to have a traditional Ryokan experience, location is walking distance from some attractions and markets. Just be aware that is not a conventional hotel, you’ll need to follow some rules like be back before 11:00pm or leave your room keys (even safe key) at the lobby when you’re not there.

We were welcomed into this home like family from the very start. They were so kind, the absolute best hosts. I absolutely recommend adding the traditional Japanese breakfast option to your stay too! It was so great to experience that side of Japanese culture that you normally don’t get as a tourist. Location is great, really convenient with plenty of things in walking distance.

This ryokan was beyond my expectations. The photos doesn’t do justice at all.
The ryokan has everything you will need and is super comfortable and quiet. The owners and very sweet and kind and always help with everything.
The place is next to the Nishiki market which is very convenient to grab anything fresh to eat. Next time in Kyoto will definitely stay here again, Arigato!!

Ryokan adiacente al bellissimo mercato. Struttura molto piacevole si dorme sui tatami e si fa colazione con kimono forniti dai proprietari in un ambiente piccolo e delizioso. Il Ryokan offre una piccola struttura termale che rende il soggiorno particolarmente piacevole. Colazione con forte connotato giapponese. Zona molto centrale.

Great staff, authentic feel, but a bit old

This place is run by a fantastic couple who also live in the building, like a "mom & pop" bed & breakfast in a way.
The friendliness of the staff was unparallelled in our entire nine day japan trip with multiple stays.

The places gives you that authentic, although not very comfortable, feel, with floor seating and floor sleeping.
So for having that type of experience, which I do recommend for at least a night or two, this is a good spot.

Very nice location, close to the more interesting central spots of the city.

Some drawbacks were a 11 PM curfew, meaning you had to get back by that time, which was a bit too early for our tastes, but it worked out fine.

Another drawback for those who like to bring a few drinks back to their room (from the hotel vending machine or shop it in beforehand) and stay up a bit late, is that the breakfast here is not really voluntary.
That cute old lady will call you up about it in the morning, so the second morning we felt compelled to join even though we werent in the best shape after a fun night the night before.

Also, the place needs some touch-ups, you get that "grandma's house" feel with old interior, a bit scruffy, some older facilities etc.

Not a bad place, and again, wow for the staff, but if you like grabbing some beers and staying up late then you should probably choose another place.

The staff are so friendly and helpful and speak very well English. The place is so clean and dust free! It’s a well maintained facility with hot drinks, public bath and laundry service. My child loved it. And the place is only 1 min walk from Nishiki Market. I wished I booked more days.

Best place to stay in Kyoto!

Can’t recommend this place enough! Everything was fantastic, we stayed for 2 nights and absolutely loved it! They provided us with Yukata to wear inside the property, they were warm and really elevated the traditional Japanese Ryokan experience! We also had the breakfast and I definitely recommend it, I’m not much of a breakfast person and I tend not to eat when I go sightseeing, so it was the perfect set up to have a proper meal to start the day and it kept me full for a long time. The hostess was also incredibly kind, so nice and helpful with suggestions and information, and it’s actually her home as well! The place was absolutely beautiful, it’s clear they put a ton of work into it and was such a nice relaxing atmosphere after running around everywhere all day!

The location itself is great, you’re right next to Nishiki market and the main shopping street in Kyoto, so bus stops aren’t that far either, maybe a 5-10 min walk? Even though it’s near some of the most popular shopping, the neighborhood itself is very quiet and the noise tends to stay within the market itself. If you’re looking for a traditional Japanese inn I can’t recommend staying here enough, the futons were very comfortable and the deep bathtub was an absolute delight!

Owner was very kind and attentive. This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a traditional room in Kyoto. There is also plenty to do in the area around, as you are near Nishiki market here. The only thing to note is that there is an 11pm curfew here.

Great Stay!

We loved our stay at Kagihei! The owners and all the staff we met were super friendly and kind. Highlights included the public bath and the exquisite kaiseki breakfasts they served each morning. It was also really helpful that they had a laundry available and very reasonably priced, as we came to Kyoto after a week in Tokyo without access to laundry! Facilities were also extremely clean, and we loved being right next to Nishiki market.

Our stay was great all around. We had the Japanese Ryokan experience yet on a western friendly manner. Our room had a regular shower and toilet, while at the same time there was onsen available. The owners were extremely kind; Japanese breakfast delicious; tatami sleeping experience very good; and the surroundings were very convenient. Easy to walk around the market and stores nearby. The river side is close as well where we found a great restaurant. Gion is also close. We hope we had more time to go to the bars and restaurants in that area. There are subway stations nearby where you can transport to the many sites to see in Kyoto. Price was also more reasonable compared to other options. The Ryokan is not very large and there should be other ones with more fancy facilities, gardens and views. However, since we were going to be sightseeing most of the day, this was a pretty good option to us. We are thinking on another trip back to Japan next year and we will definitely repeat this Ryokan.

Beautiful little ryokan right near the Nishiki market. The hosts are amazing - friendly and helpful. The service is exceptional. Rooms are well equipped and very clean and well maintained. We tried the traditional breakfast which was amazing. Absolute gem! Will definitely stay here again the next time we come to Kyoto.

I had a fantastic stay and a memorable experience from my first stay at a ryokan. The landlady and the rest of the staff were phenomenal at making me feel welcome to their ryokan and I felt very well taken care of during my two nights stay.
The room was extremely clean and traditional but had all modern conveniences I could ask for. The location is supreme; close to shopping, sights and public transport but still in a very quiet street and I slept like a baby on my comfy futon. The breakfast was wholesome and a fascinating sample of traditional Japanese morning food. Highly recommended!

My husband and I had a wonderful time. The area was surprisingly close to shopping and tourist areas. Like less than a half a block away. Public transportation was close by. Many temples and shrines to visit. I always felt safe.

Side note: if you have allergies I suggest you purchase allergy meds. I discovered I had an allergic reaction to the mattes. When I opened the balcony door for the night the fresh air soothed my sneezing and coughing reaction. This was my first time visiting Japan I did not considered that I might have allergies. Live in learn. I would visit and stay at this place again just with meds for allergies.

Wonderful opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan — tatami mats on the floor, futon on floor for your bed, a full Japanese breakfast with fish, ruce, miso soup and more, a small onsen (public bath), and yukata robe to wear to the bath or breakfast. The owner Yuko is so warm and welcoming that this felt like home.

The location is terrific — half a block from the fantastic Nishiki food and fish market, about three blocks from a huge intersection with buses, subway, department store, and the city’s biggest shopping arcade, yet the ryokan itself was quiet and peaceful.

It’s about a ten minute walk to the trendy Ponto Cho strip of restaurants and the lovely river, and a 15 minute walk across the river to Gion. But there are lots of restaurants even closer, including Starbucks and Tullys if you need a US-style coffee fix. :-)

If you need a Western style luxury hotel, this is not for you. But if you want authentic Japanese hospitality and culture, I strongly recommend it.

The property was exactly as pictured. The location was perfect. The one negative was that the air conditioning didn’t work in our room. The owners apologized repeatedly and it wasn’t horribly hot, I just really like it very cool for sleeping so that was not great for me. But the owners were SO nice. I can’t say enough positive things about them. I would recommend to anyone wanting to try a ryoken experience.

Ryokan Kagihei is a real gem in the centre of Kyoto. It was quiet and extremely efficiently and professionally run by the owners and their staff. Apart from the excellent location, the property is equipped with useful amenities. If these plus the ‘spa’ are not enough, the breakfast will certainly leave you feeling happy and at home!

Centrally located family-run ryokan

Kagihei is a family-run ryokan that's quite centrally located on a quiet street in the main shopping district of Kyoto. It's easily walkable to Shijo and Gion and the Imperial Palace, and is two blocks from Nishikiji Market.

The building is new, but the room interiors are traditional style. There is one stack of rooms that is very dark, so if you are planning to stay inside don't get those rooms. (The other 4 stacks seem fine.) The breakfast is excellent and the sento baths are small but nice. There's not much of a garden. The ryokan closes at 11pm, so it's not a good place if you want to stay out late.

Amazing little Ryokan in Downtown Kyoto! A stones throw from the Nishiki Market. The owners (husband and wife) are incredibly nice and their breakfast is amazing! The rooms are very comfortable and the location is great. Super close to subway and the main high end street with designer shopping, along with tons of restaurants and malls. Such a great place to stay if you want to experience a low key no frills Ryokan. Will definitely recommend to family and friends. Thank you!

The location was fabulous and the space was great. The owners were incredibly kind and helpful.

Not necessarily a flaw, but there were some things that were showing a little age. But that didn’t affect my experience.

I highly recommend this ryokan to anyone and I would gladly stay here again!

We had an excellent 3 night stay at Ryokan Kagihei. Yuko and the staff were friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Their english is great, too. Our room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. We had the set breakfast and it was delicious, It is definitely worth adding! It is located in a quiet street and just around the corner is the bustling Nishiki market. A little further are the general stores, shopping area and public transportation. You can’t go wrong with this Ryokan! We hope to return on our next trip to Kyoto.
