MIMARU SHIJO was the best hotel we stayed at on our 3 weeks trip in Japan. Very convenient area to get around. Lots of restaurants and shopping close by. The two bedroom suite was perfect suite for my family so everyone could have their own space. In suite laundry was fantastic. The staff was extremely helpful and the MIMARU luggage delivery was the best service we experienced out of all hotels we stayed at. I would highly recommend this property to anyone, especially families.

A true home away from home in Kyoto

Our family (parents, 2 teenage boys and adult niece) spent 3 nights here in August 2025. It was our third hotel during our trip and by far our favorite! The 3 separate bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, spacious living room and washing machine were perfect for us. It allowed us additional privacy and less wait for showers after long days touring in the hot sun. The location made it easy to walk to shopping and restaurants, especially our twice daily convenience store visits. The staff and service are amazing with so many included perks like coffee, cold water, sake and beer. Staff is fluent in English which is very convenient for foreigners

Amazing room and food.

We were welcomed by friendly staff, and beautiful grounds. We do not speak Japanese and the staff could accommodate. We booked a room with a private onsen. The breakfast and dinner was amazing. Our waitress took the time to help us understand how to enjoy each course.

Great apartment for families. Very spacious. Easy and beautiful 15-20 min walk to Gino street or main tourist area. Close to subway. Temple right outside hotel. Beautiful. Free happy hour of beer and sake everyday. I would stay here again and I’m very picky.

This hotel has a great location. This was our second stay and was a good as the first. The room has so much space. It comes with a microwave, fridge and a sink. The staff is very helpful and kind. We have no complaints and would highly advise families to stay here. They also have free rental items such as chargers, scales and other misc items someone may need during their travels. The happy hour of free beer, sake and coffee was awesome. We cant wait to come back again.

We stayed for four nights, with two kids. The stay was great, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The room was also great, plenty of space and very well maintained. Much recommended!!

Great staff and they were very helpful. 2 bedroom was great for a whole family. The kids loved it. The amenities downstairs were great and the drinks for happy hour were excellent. We havo no complaints and will come again. Room was well kept and very comfortable. A+++++

Had a good stay here. Rooms were comfortable though sometimes the doors got in the way. Would be better if they were all sliding doors. Location was pretty good. About a 25 minute walk from Kyoto station or 10 minutes from Shijo station. Taxi to and from Kyoto station average 1,000 yen. Staff was friendly, happy hour was nice.

We didn't get to stay here long but it was a very pleasant stay. We got one of the suites and it was well worth it. The kids had their own room and it was nice to spread out. They had a washwr and dryer with detergent provided.

The free water, coffee and drinks were very nice touch.

Would come back again.

Excellent room with plenty of space. Convinent location within easy walking distance to bus stops, subway station, and Nishiki market. Very friendly and helpful staff. I needed to search for a place to rent a wheelchair for my mother. The hotel staff offered one to us for free to use for the entire duration of our stay.

We had a great stay. We are a family of 5 with two littles and a teenager and the two room suite was perfect. Loved the amenities, we were able to start our day with hot tea. And we had the option of a happy hour which was usually around the time when we were returning from the day of exploration. Highly recommend.

Very nice property, just a short walk from Shijo Station. The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful in providing recommendations, etc. We enjoyed our stay and would go back if we are ever in Kyoto again.

Loved this hotel, it felt like a small apartment and had plenty of room. Location was in the newer part of Kyoto, with lots of shopping and convenient stores. Close to 7 eleven and Larsin’s also.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment. This hotel was great for a three night stay. There is a small temple across the street that we visited. We were able to do laundry but watch the dryer, it shrunk my jeans! The front staff spoke excellent english, in fact one is from the USA. There is a grocery store and McDonalds within a few blocks. We ate at the Irish pub around the corner and the fish and chips was very good. There is free beer and sake for happy hour every night! It was a very enjoyable stay and I would definitely recommend it.

I stayed in the 3-bedroom suite, which has just 2 bathrooms. The bedroom with the ensuite has no windows, and only one bedroom has windows, making it feel a bit claustrophobic. There’s no basket on the wall, but the room did include the hat. The walls are very thin, so you hear everything from neighboring rooms, and a dog across the street barks constantly. The beds are comfortable, and the cleaning service is excellent. The in-room booklet clearly explains how to use the amenities and lists local attractions. If I stay again, I’d look for a suite with an ensuite bathroom and a window. The staff is great, and the lobby has convenient self-serve amenities.

This is a great hotel for families in a special part of Kyoto. The staff were particularly lovely and helpful. We will definitely stay again. We loved the happy hour and the Japanese calligraphy classes.

The room itself was nice and spacious. The housekeeping was poor I’d say. They have a schedule of when they do bedsheets vs. bathrooms etc. but it seemed sporadic and they don’t tidy anything ever. It was very nice they had a washer dryer combo in the unit. Pretty good value I’d say generally for a family. As far as staff and service I’d say they are almost all incompetent. With the exception of a gentleman named Seth and his colleague Daniel, everyone else had no clue what they were talking about. I asked to have a taxi in the morning waiting, the next morning the woman at the counter struggled with an iPad for 5 minutes until I finally gave up and booked an uber. I asked another woman at the front desk if I could get a stamp to mail my postcard. She told me to visit Lawson’s only to find out they don’t sell stamps so I had to talk 20 minutes to the post office. It seemed that every time I needed something or had a question I was given incorrect or incomplete information. Don’t stay here if you expect even mediocre customer service. Do stay here if you are totally self sufficient, need a lot of space, and are traveling with little ones. Overall average.

If I could give more stars I would! Front desk hosts are all so kind and helpful. Housekeeping staff were so sweet and accommodating to our changing schedule. The reception area multi-functional coffee/cocoa machine clean was a hit for our family of 6. Happy hour sake/local beer a bonus! We were in Kyoto for 6 nights and covered a lot of ground. The location was perfect and walkable to most but could also jump right on the train closeby. Extremely clean hotel city. Our favorite Mimaru so far and we've stayed at 3 during our trip :) Thank you for making our stay in Kyoto extra comfortable and amazing!

Wonderful place to stay, especially for four adults. It is roomy and clean with two full bathrooms and a washing machine. The staff is very friendly and helpful! It's only minutes to the subway station and konbinis and yet very quiet at night. Highly recommend!

We had a great stay.
The property is clean and rooms are spacious, staffs were welcoming.
We had a 2br with 2 baths, which is fantastic for our family of 4. Short walk to subway, convenient store right around the corner.
They also offer expresso in the morning and beer tasting at happy hour, we loved it so much and would definitely go back if we visit Japan again. Highly recommended!

The hotel was absolutely stunning! Service was spot on, happy hour for beer and sake was a bonus! Loved the free calligraphy session too. Perhaps next time to place families with kids on lower level as we had kids stomping up and down their room from upstairs and it was a little frustrating to hear this for the 4 nights at various times throughout the day. It compromised the zen feeling and vibe we were looking for during our stay.

This is a great place to stay in Tokyo. It’s a great location, close to the subway line and within an easy walk to Pontoccho Alley and Gion. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is spotless and our two bedroom apartment was spacious and had everything you need and more. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed our stay.

Great location and large rooms with plenty of amenities. The staff were super helpful. My only suggestion is the check how many beds are in your room. We had 6 people in a 2 bedroom suite, but only 4 beds, we were able to upgrade to a larger 3 bedroom suite with 6 beds, but could be a problem if they don’t have any upgrades available.

The room was excellent. They had all of the amenities a family would need. Excellent washer and dryer. Lots of room. Great showers and towel service. The happy hour every night was a nice plus and the staff had good recommendations and spoke fluent English. I would highly recommend!
