Great location, excellent service

The location was great, the service impeccable, and the room was by far the best place we stayed the entire trip to Japan. I would definitely recommend this place and their traditional Japanese breakfast was DELICIOUS!!!

This was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. I almost did not want to leave for the days I stayed here. I did spend one long night here just to enjoy it and recover from all the walking around Kyoto I was doing. The breakfast that was included was some of the best I have ever had. I highly recommend!

An amazing hotel with a fantastic restaurant. The staff was also fantastic. However, it would have been nice to have some more basic dining choices as every meal looked like a photo from a magazine. The food was great but sometimes a guy just wants a simple omelet for breakfast without the other 8 options that come with it. Maybe that's just me. Yes I'd recommend this place. However the location is a bit out of the way.

Excellent boutique hotel, hotel staff are all outstanding. Breakfast was included and very well done every day. Front desk were always prepared to assist with any request. Would definitely stay there again when back in Kyoto.

This hotel was an absolute treat. The staff were as friendly and accommodating as you will find anywhere in the world and the on site restaurant was world class. The garden view and central location were also major drawcards.

Such a charming, peaceful and beauitful boutique hotel with exceptional customer service. The breakfast each morning was delicious and the rooms were very comfortable. We will hopefully stay here again if we are lucky enough to return to Kyoto!

The Garrya Nijo Castle is an impeccable hotel with a top-notch staff. The hotel is hidden away in a quiet neighborhood, just a short taxi or subway ride from the highly-trafficked tourist areas. In fact, you wouldn't know it was there if you weren't looking for it. With just 24 rooms, each guest is treated with the utmost attention and care. The check-in process was perhaps the most thorough and welcoming I have ever experienced at a hotel. The rooms are generous in size—even by Western standards, spotlessly clean, and full of quality amenities. Unlike Tokyo's convoluted subway system, Kyoto's is easy to navigate and a stop is conveniently located just a few strides from the hotel. All in all, I highly recommend this property and couldn't be more pleased with the experience.

This place was absolutely gorgeous and clean. The included breakfast was delicious, healthy, and so complete. This is one of the best hotels where we have stayed in our travels through different countries for sure. Highly recommended. A few steps from the train station so its location is super convenient. Highly recommended. So beautiful. 5 stars - no question.

Gorgeous Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto - 5 star

Cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Our room was absolutely beautiful and the service We were warmly welcomed. Room was serviced daily along with turn down in the evening. The bed was huge and very comfortable with very nice linens. Breakfast was first class, excellent. We are english speaking and it was nice that the t.v. allowed us to cast netflix so we could watch at bedtime in english. Location is excellent - very convenient to all necessities and shopping. 100% reccomend and would return.

This hotel was absolutely amazing. From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out. The level of service that I received at this place was far and above better than any service I have received at any hotel I've ever stayed at. Breakfast I had every morning was expertly made and absolutely delicious. The view of Nijo Castle from my room was the highlight of the room for me. Nothing is more relaxing a nice hot bath and cup of tea whilst looking at the beautiful world heritage site. Every night when I return from touring Kyoto I came into a completely clean room, fresh sheets, and my pajamas folded and placed on the foot of my bed. One drawback someone my say is the location is some what far away from the most popular sites in the city. But a subway station literally just around the corner. Made it so easy to traverse city. Saving big money on taxis. I was not able to have dinner at the restaurant, but with bunch little restaurants, bars. Getting something to eat was never a problem. I have decided that I'm definitely coming back to Kyoto, and I will refuse to stay anywhere else.

We had an awesome experience staying at Garrya Nijo Castle. The views of the the Nijo castle were spectacular and it was a very convenient location to experience highlights of Kyoto by walking or using the public transport.
Really friendly and professional staff made our stay special.
We also really enjoyed the breakfast and the set dinner, and really looking forward to our next visit.

What a fabulous property! We tremendously enjoyed staying there. The location is extremely convenient with a subway station within 5 mins and being situated opposite Nijo castle adds a certain charm. The food was delicious and the staff are extremely courteous and amicable. We will definitely be going back!

No spa, no fitness club, no other facilities but very private and quiet. Room was clean and spacious. View of the Nijo castle is not what you would have expected but good for a walk around the castle. Very near from subway and 10 mins walk to JR Nijo. Staffs are kind and well-trained.

Extremely well trained staff to take care of your needs. Very nice and receptive. Location is excellent if you want to visit the Nijo Castle but minimal shopping and dining around hotel. Hotel does have a Michelin Star restaurant which was offering free breakfast and dinner during our stay. No gym, no spa and no pool. Rooms were great very spacious with an open feeling. Ours had an elevated dining area on tatami mats. Room safe, well stocked refrig and huge shower and bath.

From the reception on arrival, to the staff at breakfast and dinner, I could not have felt more welcome. I stay in many hotels around the world for business and this was one of my favourite. The location was perfect for me and the room was really well equipped. The food was fantastic. The breakfast waiter even helped me with my plans for the day with great advice on where to go. Will definitely return.

Superb Kyoto hotel

This was one of the greatest hotel experiences I’ve had ever…. The service was second to none. Most of Japan’s cities are crowded and chaotic, and to return after a long touristy day to the serenity and peacefulness of this hotel was absolutely incredible.

Luxurious, tranquil, excellent service

The hotel is lovely, tranquil, secluded. The staff are incredible and service was top notch.

Our room had a great view overlooking the castle moat, walls, and tops of the castle (of course in Kyoto by law you can't have a room high enough to view fully over the walls).

The room was very clean, quiet, and nicely designed.

We did not choose breakfast or dine at the restaurant/bar, however it looked very elegant. There are just so many places to experience in Kyoto outside the hotel.

The only thing that could make this hotel even better would be if it had an onsen!

Luxury Boutique Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel in a perfect location. Rooms, public areas etc are immaculate with works class design and features. It has a luxury boutique feel to it with super friendly staff
The only criticism is their somewhat inflexible approach to eating in the restaurant and access to the bar. Everything has to be pre- booked the day before when you may not be too sure of your plans and there’s little accommodation for any last minute changes.
Other than that I’d 100 percent recommend the hotel if you want a peaceful and relaxing break in a city that is one of the jewels of the world.

This was a magnificent property. The rigorous protocols around accessing the dining room and bar could bear a revisit including some more options on the menu and flexibility with ordering. A bar where you can just drop by without a reservation and certain meals without reservation like breakfast would be good. It is so beautiful that a fitness center would be a real add. Staff are striving for excellence on all levels but seem to have to follow some cumbersome protocols.

Beautiful recently renovated hotel with an exceptionally friendly staff, great restaurants and amazing view of Nijō Castle. The only odd thing was the fact that one can barely fit even single carry-on suitcase into the closet.
