便利で静かな宿です

京大病院の向かいにあるため鴨川や聖護院、平安神宮も近くです。祇園から酔いを覚ましながら帰るにはちょうど良いほどの静かな地域にあります。木造の外見に、伝統的な宿の細やかなもてなしを期待してはいけません。昔ながらの片泊まりの小さな宿ではなく、夕食や小規模の団体にも対応できる商人宿のようなものと思えば悪くないでしょう。木造の宿ですから、足音や声の響きが通るのは当たり前のことですが、改装によって設備は近代化され、利便性や清潔度は増しています。大きめの風呂があるのは◎です。全体にもう少し改修の質がよければ、それと寝具も宿泊料に比べれば実に安っぽい。立地と建物はよいのですから、今ひとつの営業努力が必要でしょう。

また来たいと思わせる旅館

外観・内装とも趣があって素晴らしかった。
8畳の部屋だったが、狭いとは感じない作りになっていた。
個別に風呂もあり、大浴場もある。
観光客が求める京都らしさがあり、大変満足した。

ただ、どうせレストランは近くに幾らでもあるだろうと食事なしの一番安いプランにしたが、近くに夕食・朝食を取れる店の選択肢が非常に少なく、食事ありにすれば良かったと後悔した。
近くの軽食屋ですら1000円以下のメニューはほぼなく、ドリンクは500円～、とむしろコストパフォーマンスを重視する人なら、食べる量によっては逆に食事ありプランの方が安上がりになる可能性すらある。
地図では直ぐ側に見える平安神宮まで歩いていけるが、実際に歩くと少し距離はある。

従業員の対応もよく、次に京都へ行くときも利用したい。

総じて良かったです

日本独特の増改築を繰り返してできたような間取りや外観がとても素敵だった。部屋は広々、サッシやドアは良い意味でも悪い意味でも新しく、趣は少々かけるが、機密性やセキュリティは良い感じ。大きなお風呂も清潔で快適。従業員さん達はみんな感じが良かった。浴衣やお茶菓子も毎日新しいものが用意されて嬉しかった。大したことではないけれど、残念だったのは、部屋の洗面所でお湯が出なかったので、外の共同洗面所に洗顔に行かなくてはいけなかったこと、使わなかったのでフロントには言わなかったけれど金庫が前の人が閉めっぱなしにして使えなかったこと、前の人がかけたと思う目覚ましが勝手になったこと、次の人が入る前にもう少しチェックをしても良いかなと思った。

静かで清潔な旅館

中心部から少し離れていますが、すっきりとした清潔な旅館でした。
ただお風呂周りにイマイチな部分が散見されました。お風呂の湯温がかなり低めでちょっと寒かったです。備え付けのコンディショナーがどれもほぼカラで参りました。

十分日本的かつ海外からの旅行客でも使いやすい

外国人の夫とその家族と３名で宿泊しました。
この予算でホテルで３名ではかなり狭くなるか分室になるところ、和室ならでは室内スペースがゆったりするのが利点です。
部屋にシャワー・トイレが在ったのと、且つフロアーに共用トイレも洗面台も豊富にあり、更に大浴場もあるので朝晩家族内で順番待ちをする必要も無かったのは大助かりでした。

お勧め旅館！

受験で滞在しましたが、大学へも歩いて行けましたし、とても静かで快適でした。旅館の方も親切で、交通の便もいいので、また機会があったら利用したいです。夏は冷蔵庫があったら便利かなと思いました。

おいしい朝ご飯

思ったより部屋は狭かったのですが清潔、従業員の皆さんはとても親切で、快適にすごせました。特別なことはないのですが、お風呂はとても気持ちよく、朝食はおいしかったです。歩いてすぐの所に、八つ橋発祥のお店というのがありました。

とても満足しました

非常に清潔で整頓されていて、かつ旅館特有の温かみもありとても満足しています。観光名所へのアクセスも便利ですし、近くにコンビニがあるのも嬉しいです。次回の京都旅行も、ぜひ、使わせてもらいたいと思っています。

平安神宮~銀閣寺・哲学の道・南禅寺~清水寺観光

旅館さわや本店とっても良かったです。最寄りのバス停も近く、近くにコンビニもあり、洋食が食べられる珈琲店があるため食には不自由しません。そして、何より観光するのに立地が良いです。

場所は満足だけど食事付きが良かった

観光目的で宿泊しましたが、場所的にはバス停も近くにあり満足でした。
ただ、紹介写真の中の食事を期待してたのですが、実際行ってみると
そういったものはない様子…
しかも門限が２４時で夜遅くに戻るときは空腹のまま夜を過ごすことに。
確認しなかった方も悪かったですが、そういった情報は正確に書いて欲しかったです。

思った以上によかったー♪

紅葉シーズン真っ只中で、旅行前ギリギリで見つけた旅館でした。京都駅からも遠いし、あまり期待はしていなかったのですが、部屋はきれいだし（角部屋だったし）、よく考えてみると京都観光はバスが命なのでバス停にも近くて、一本で「清水道」へ行けたりできるのはスゴくいい！ また、チェックイン時は11:00pmを過ぎていましたが、お風呂にも入れてもらえたしで、親切で非常にありがたかったです！

It's a small little place that is unique and features little things that make it special - a koi fish feature, spacious rooms in traditional Japanese style. Comfortable and most of all the service was great.

I stayed here 2 nights and my stay was incredible! Since the moment I arrived the staff was very friendly explaining me the rules while staying, and the room was everything I expected.
The public baths were also an amazing experience, so I highly recommend to take a bath there at least once!
The location was well connected with the bus and metro system, and the surroundings were perfectly quiet, with some nice places to eat close by.
Definitely recommended, and hope I can come back!

Great authentic Ryokan. Bus stops were close which made it easy to get around, lots of good restaurants close by with an amazing bakery.

The hot bath was a great way to relax after a long day of exploring the city.

Would highly reccomend staying here if youre travelling to Kyoto!

My wife and I wanted the experience of staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan, so we decided on staying here for the Kyoto leg of our trip, and it did not disappoint. The room was charming and wonderfully decorated and accessorized, the bedding comfortable, and the staff were so kind and patient with us. From the koi pond visible from our room to the fantastic traditional breakfast, everything about the Ryokan Sawaya Honten made our trip to Japan that much more memorable.

A very nice place to stay for vacation. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room is very spacious and clean. Just walk one block to the bus station and two block to the subway station. The buses are reaching to the temples and Kyoto station. No need to transfer. Very convenient.

Loved it so much!!

What a delight! This Ryokan had excellent service. We didn't speak Japanese but everyone made it work. Truly the staff were so helpful. The room was so cozy. We loved our mats and the bedding was so comfy. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

교토 도심에 위치한 료칸 분위기의 숙소.

교토역에서 버스타고 이동하기 편하고, 숙소 근처 지하철을 타고 관광지를 방문하기도 괜찮았다.
근처에 카모 강이 있어 산책하기도 좋았다.
4인실을 예약 했는데, 내부가 충분히 넓고 좋았다.

1층에 코인 세탁기 2대와 코인 건조기 2대가 설치 되어 있다.
목욕탕은 매우 좁다.

숙소 주변에는 상점이나 식당이 거의 없어 밤에는 횡한 기분이 든다.

It was a wonderful experience. The place is beautiful and clean. The service is excellent. My husband and I stayed there for 5 nights with the traditional Japanese breakfast. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented every morning.

Great experience at this tattoo friendly ryokan! Rooms are large and smell of fragrant wood. We had the best sleep! Neighborhood is quiet and a nice walk across the canal from the busy downtown.

This ryokan (Japanese inn) is very traditional. Shoes are left by the entry. There are a men’s and a ladies’ onsen. Each room has a private bath, yukata (traditional bath robe), and a little fridge. There’s a tea set and hot water for tea, and the lay out futons for each guest. The AC worked fantastically (important in summer). It was what one could hope for in Kyoto.

The inn is located two blocks from the Heikan line, across from Kyoto hospital, and less than a block from two minimarts and several small family run restaurants.

For the most part, I greatly enjoyed my stay here. We booked one of the traditional Japanese rooms. and it was gorgeous and peaceful. Futon mats were comfortable. Loved the room’s private bathtub and advanced toilet/shower. In addition, the onsen for women was superb at night—very clean and peaceful. I was often the only one there at 9 pm, and I enjoyed the solitude.

One thing that was a little bit unpleasant was the humidity of the rooms—because the rooms were so humid, the towels we used were not drying, despite trying to dry them indoors and outdoors on a rack. The ryokan does not offer new towels each day, so that was hard. Also, I would not book the breakfast service if I came back. We had to wake up too early to eat, since the last breakfast was served around 8:30 am, and the portions were smaller than what we would have liked. I would eat breakfast outside.

Nonetheless, this was a fantastic experience!

Nos hospedamos en este lugar ya que buscabamos la experiencia de un lugar tradicional japones y no pudimos escoger mejor lugar que este. Staff amable y servivial, nos dejaron entrar antes de la hora estipulada para el check in, todo el hotel super limpio , tranquilo y silencioso. La habitacion muy amplia, limpia y con excelentes amenidades. Nos quedamos una noche por la experiencia pero hubieramos deseado quedarnos mas. Al momento del check out nos recibio alguien del staff que sabia hablar español y que identifico que eramos mexicanos asi que nos mostro todo lo que ha aprendido de nuestro pais, y lo que aprende de otros paises fue realmente asombroso, algo de admirarse . Definitivamente si volvemos a Kyoto seria uno de los lugares en los que nos hospedariamos de nuevo

Nice Ryokan in Kyoto. Bus stops brought us everywhere to far to go.

The hotel is near Kyoto University and Kumano Shrine. The area is quiet and safe. There are not many restaurants but there is a nice soba noodle restaurant and convenient store nearby. The building is traditional Japanese style Ryokan with several common areas, but also has been renovated for hotel-like comforts with air-conditioning, internet and automatic room lock. There are small steps at multiple places, which might be difficult for some people. The room is floored with tatami and relaxing. Hotel staff are very kind and polite.

Set in a quiet area (university). Train station is about a 10 minute walk. Staff was friendly and even spoke English well which was nice. MAMA LOUIS is nearby and we highly suggest you go!

Stayed for a few days while in Kyoto. The ryokan was beautiful and the staff were very helpful. The rooms were very traditional but still had modern amenities. We paid for a traditional Japanese breakfast everyday which was absolutely delicious and worth it.

It is a good location and close to the train station. The Kyoto shopping mall has excellent food in the basement and about 2km away. The Zen garden outside of the window is nice. The washing machine is useful. Hiroshi in the front desk is very helpful and excellent! We really appreciate him! Thank you

Cozy and fun experience

The service folks were very friendly. Horoshi took special interest in the guests and was fun to chat with when leaving the inn and also when returning back from a long day out around the city. The room I stood in was very clean and I felt quite zen during the times that I was in the room and in the inn. There is a beautiful fish pond towards the back which was fun to look at and watch the fish swim. The public bath was nice, it is basically like a hot tub you can use with other people of the same gender. I wish the public bath was open during more hours of the day or 24 hrs, but still relaxing nonetheless!

Very good and well kept property. Huge rooms. Had the traditional look. Beds were excellent. Everything seemed high quality.
The front desk person who does the night shift was superb friendly and nice.
Laundry facilities also available. The breakfast was traditional Japanese and very tasty.
Really loved it !

A wonderful and unique experience in Kyoto

Upon entering through the sliding glass doors you are transported back hundreds of years to a time long past, as you are greeted with a meticulously detailed reception area, and the kindest and most accomodating staff I have ever had the pleasure to interact with.

While checking in we were informed of all relevant houserules, before being lead to our wonderfully decorated room. From the full-room shower to the soft and inviting futons, everything was to our liking.

The breakfast the following morning did not disappoint, with a delicious, light and varied selection of interesting foods, including a small, traditional dessert.
It is also worth noting each meal being unique in execution beyond the expected presence of egg, rice and a delicious homemade miso soup.

Oh, and please make sure to open your bedroom windows, as even the limited alley-spaces behind the inn itself seem to have had much thought put into their design and execution. Ours had a running stream with gorgeous living koi splashing around, adding to the atmosphere.

Lastly we’d like to thank Hiroshi for a wonderful stay. Thank you for being a part of our extended holiday in Japan!

We loved this place. It was very clean, staff was super friendly. We didn't have the breakfast option with our stay but there were plenty of options in the area.

Beautiful Ryokan inside and out. We were met with very friendly staff, and the check in was quick and efficient.

Our pampered backs were not used to the Japanese futons, but this wasn't a problem at all. Sawaya supplied extra layer of futons without question.

Sawaya offers seperated public baths in the mornings and evenings. Great way to relax after a long day of walking through Kyoto.

Nice, clean and large room. Very friendly staff, such a pleasure to have stayed here!

The property is close to the 206 transit line and the hotel can sell you a daily bus pass for ¥700, which worked out really well.

Not the most convenient location overall, but still a great place to stay.

The ryokan is clean, quiet, and spacious with great amenities especially the onsen. There is a washer dryer that guests may use. The staff also reserved a taxi for our early ride to the airport. We did not have our breakfast there because I forgot to reserve this but they do offer this option. I would definitely consider staying here again. Many thanks to all the staff who took such good care of us.

Traditional Ryokan Perfect

We loved our stay here. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The room was amazing we loved how traditional and comfortable it felt. Breakfast was so good every morning. Location was convenient - easy to get to the subway to get all over Kyoto. There was a 7/11, Lawson, and Family mart all within walking distance. We enjoyed that it was a bit further from the Kyoto train station it had a more relaxed vibe and after dealing with the craziness of all the must see spots it was so nice to come here and just feel like we could relax. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
